SCOPE OF POSITION
As a member of the IT Security group, this role is responsible for all aspects of security including threat and risk management, vulnerability assessment and remediation, access management, encryption and key management, forensic investigations, incident handling and operational security. The Security Analyst is expected to be fully aware of the enterprise’s security goals and to actively work to support these goals.
This includes checking server and firewall logs, scrutinizing network traffic, establishing and updating virus scans, troubleshooting, investigation and reporting. Other tasks include participation in or leading the implementation of new security solutions. This role has responsibility for disaster recovery planning and for ensuring that Disaster Recovery (DR) plans are created and maintained as well as for planning and coordinating DR tests.
Typical Duties would include:
Participate in strategic and tactical planning for IT Security to drive standards and architecture elements of the security program.
Maintain security systems including UTM (Firewall, IPS, Application Control, web filtering and DLP), Messaging Gateway, SIEM, Encryption system, and Endpoint Protection
Monitor server logs, firewall logs, intrusion detection logs, web filtering, and antiviral systems for unusual or suspicious activity. Interpret activity and make recommendations for resolution. Conduct investigations into problematic activity.
Demonstrate expertise in the planning and design of enterprise security architecture and create and maintain inventory of security technology
Monitor external sources for available security patches, prioritize and make recommendations for implementation
Conduct BIA’s and DR planning. Ensure DR configurations are updated to reflect production environment.
Participate in third party audits of technology systems
Demonstrate expertise in the creation of enterprise security documents (policies, standards, baselines, guidelines and procedures).
Maintain up-to-date detailed knowledge of the IT security industry including awareness of new or revised security solutions, improved security processes and the development of new attacks and threat vectors.
Recommend additional security solutions or enhancements to existing security solutions to improve overall enterprise security.
Perform the deployment, integration and initial configuration of new security solutions and of any enhancements to existing security solutions
Maintain operational configurations of all in-place security solutions
Demonstrate expertise in the design and execution of vulnerability assessments, penetration tests and security audits.
Participate in Risk Management and Security Working groups.
QUALIFICATIONS
College diploma or university degree preferably in the field of computer science
Minimum 5-7 years of practical experience and demonstrated ability to carry out the functions of the job
A recognized certification in the field (e.g. SANS, CISSP)
Broad knowledge of the CISSP common body of knowledge
Knowledge of security industry standards and best practices.
Technical knowledge of network, PC, and server operating systems, including Windows, Linux and VMWare.
Working technical knowledge of, routers, switches, firewalls, VPNs, intrusion-detection systems, web filtering, anti-virus, data encryption.
Knowledge of TCP/IP and network administration/protocols.
Knowledge and experience with disaster recovery planning and testing
