At CAPAX, we provide individualized, evidence-based ABA therapy to children with Autism and their families. Our goal is to help each child build meaningful skills that promote greater independence, confidence, communication, and participation at home, school, and in the community.
We are currently looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Instructor Therapist (IT) to join our team and provide in-home ABA therapy in Barrie, Ontario.
This is an excellent opportunity for an ABA professional who enjoys working directly with children, implementing individualized programming, and seeing the meaningful impact of their work.
The Role
The Instructor Therapist will work directly with a child in their home environment to implement individualized ABA programs developed by the supervising Clinical Supervisor/Behaviour Analyst.
The successful candidate will be responsible for creating a positive, engaging learning environment while following established treatment protocols and collecting accurate data to monitor the child's progress.
This is an on-site, home-based position in Barrie, ON, with 3-hour sessions primarily taking place between the hours 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. (exact times are flexible) .
Key Responsibilities
- Implement individualized ABA programs and teaching strategies as outlined by the Clinical Supervisor/Behaviour Analyst
- Work one-on-one with the child to develop communication, social, academic, adaptive, and functional life skills
- Use evidence-based teaching strategies, including prompting, reinforcement, shaping, task analysis, and errorless learning as appropriate
- Collect accurate and consistent session data
- Record and communicate relevant session information and observations
- Assist with graphing and monitoring the child's progress
- Follow behaviour intervention plans and established clinical protocols
- Support the development of independence and generalization of skills across environments
- Build a positive and trusting therapeutic relationship with the child and family
- Collaborate with the Clinical Supervisor and other members of the child's treatment team
- Participate in team meetings, supervision, training, and ongoing professional development as required
- Maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality at all times
- Follow CAPAX policies, procedures, and professional standards
- Communicate promptly with the Clinical Supervisor regarding progress, concerns, barriers, or changes in the child's presentation
What We're Looking For
We are looking for someone who is warm, energetic, reliable, patient, and genuinely enjoys working with children.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Previous experience working with children with Autism
- Experience in an ABA, special education, behavioural, or educational setting
- Formal education or training in Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA), Behavioural Science, Psychology, Child and Youth Care, or a related field
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills
- The ability to follow individualized treatment protocols with consistency and attention to detail
- Strong observation and data-collection skills
- The ability to take feedback and implement clinical recommendations
- A willingness to learn and develop professionally
- The ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with a clinical team
- A professional, respectful, and family-centred approach
Assets
The following qualifications are considered an asset:
- RBT certification
- CYW, ECE, EA, DSW, SLP Assistant, Psychology, Behavioural Science, or related educational background
- Previous experience implementing skill acquisition programs
- Experience with behaviour reduction programs
- Experience with electronic data collection and graphing
- Experience working in a home-based ABA setting
