Position Mandate
The Business Consultant is a core member of Metal Supermarkets’ Operations Team. Reporting to the VP, Franchise Support & Operations, the Business Consultant is primarily responsible for ongoing mentoring, performance and compliance management of Franchise and Corporate store locations across North America. Specifically targeting the optimal and best use of the Metal Supermarkets’ business system resulting in franchisee profitable operations and growth. The Business Consultant also creates, supports, and maintains improvements to the Metal Supermarkets business system or training programs. This role requires up to two weeks of travel per month for the Business Consultant to fulfill their responsibilities, complete store visits, and support new store openings.
Performance Outcomes
To coach, mentor, guide and support a group of Metal Supermarkets franchisees to be profitable, successful, growth driven, and supportive of our Mission, Vision and Core Values as well as compliant with their franchise agreements. The Business Consultant creates, builds and fosters positive relationships with assigned franchisees and act as an effective communication and support link between Metal Supermarkets home office and franchisees. The Business Consultant also is involved in the further development of structured systems to improve our operational platform to ensure continued success and growth both in North America and Internationally. This development can include, but is not limited to, development of operational resources, reference materials, training materials and communications (i.e., Operation Manuals, Standards and Policies, and Business Requirement Documentation (BRD’s)) and the continued development of technical systems (for example, eCommerce, Purchasing, and MetalTech).
Deliverables
- To support an engaging, trusting and mutually profitable relationship between the franchisee and the franchisor.
- Grow sales, profitability and solid foundations within your assigned stores.
- Financial and statistical analysis, improvement plans and compelling delivery to effect positive changes and improvements with your assigned franchisees.
- Coach franchisees and stores to meet or exceed our Operation Excellence Review standards, best practices and deliver on Core Values.
- Visit stores to complete Operational Excellence Reviews to assess operating standards.
- Initiates well-formulated and documented action plans and follow up visits.
- Assist with and execute Franchisee training & development.
- Consult with and support assigned stores to consistently perform local store marketing plans and initiatives.
- Support the rapid and effective implementation of approved system-wide operational initiatives.
- Participate and support in new store openings as directed.
- Maintain a high level of communication with each franchisee appropriate to their situation and status.
- Communicate feedback from franchisees and other relevant information to the appropriate Metal Supermarkets head office staff.
- Liaise and coordinate with other departments and staff to aid in effective and timely franchisee support.
- Continually assesses that all stores are providing World Class Customer Service and continually employing Metal Supermarkets business system properly and effectively.
- Ensure that all franchisees are committed to operating in a safe environment. Monitor and report to franchisee any safety issues and encourage rapid and effective adherence to safety standards.
- Attend and participate as required in Metal Supermarkets’ annual franchise conference, monthly calls and otherwise.
Requirements
- At least three years of multi-unit management experience with at least one year in a franchised environment.
- At least eight years operations experience.
- Has successfully managed new location openings.
- Experience in a training is an asset.
- Post-secondary education or equivalent.
- A strong understanding of financial statement analysis and accounting.
- Knowledge of health and safety standards.
- Experience in assisting and executing strategies to increase sales in local markets.
- Experience in completing franchise field audits.
- A strong working knowledge of modern computer software platforms such as Microsoft Office as well as ERP & CRM systems.
- Strong interpersonal, relationship management & mentoring skills in a franchise environment.
- Strong oral & written communication skills.
- Exceptional planning & organizational abilities.
- Ability to analyze data to assess performance and priorities.
- Strong strategic and creative capabilities.
- Holds a valid passport & has the ability to travel without restriction.
- Self-motivated, works well independently & displays a high degree of accountability.
