Health & Safety Specialist - New Bothwell, Manitoba
About the Role
CrossSafety is seeking a Health & Safety Specialist for a 3-month contract to support onsite safety operations in New Bothwell, Manitoba (approximately 50 minutes southeast of Winnipeg).
This role provides field-level support within an active manufacturing environment, helping ensure compliance, reduce risk, and promote a proactive safety culture. The ideal candidate has strong hands-on experience in health and safety and is comfortable working directly with operations teams and contractors.
Assignment Details
- Duration: 3-month contract
- Location: New Bothwell, Manitoba (on-site)
- Start: As soon as possible
- Schedule: Full-time (site-based)
- Compensation: $45 CAD to $50 CAD per hour
Responsibilities
Field Safety & Compliance
- Conduct regular site walk-throughs, inspections, and hazard assessments
- Ensure compliance with applicable provincial regulations and safety standards
- Maintain a visible presence on the production floor to reinforce safe work practices
- Monitor and support safe work activities across operations and contractors
Program Support & Documentation
- Support implementation and execution of site safety programs, policies, and procedures
- Maintain safety documentation, reports, permits, and records
- Assist in tracking safety performance metrics and corrective actions
- Ensure accurate and timely reporting of incidents and safety data
Training & Safety Culture
- Deliver safety orientations, toolbox talks, and training sessions
- Promote a proactive, behavior-based safety culture through employee engagement
- Support ongoing safety communication across site teams
Incident Investigation & Risk Management
- Investigate incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions
- Conduct root cause analysis and recommend corrective actions
- Support hazard assessments and safe work procedure development
- Track and follow up on corrective actions to closure
Stakeholder Support
- Work closely with operations, maintenance, and site leadership to support safe operations
- Support coordination with contractors and ensure adherence to site safety requirements
- Assist with regulatory inspections or client safety requirements as needed
Qualifications
- 5+ years of health and safety experience in industrial or manufacturing environments
- Post-secondary education in Occupational Health & Safety or related field (preferred)
- Experience working in manufacturing environments (food manufacturing is an asset)
- Strong understanding of workplace safety regulations and best practices
- Experience conducting inspections, audits, and incident investigations
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic reporting tools
Preferred Experience
- Experience in food manufacturing or processing environments
- Familiarity with safety programs in production settings
- Experience working with contractors in operational environments
- Experience supporting safety program implementation and improvements
