Assignment Description
We are seeking a highly skilled Waste Advisor to join the Sustainability Team and provide Waste Management and Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) subject matter expertise (SME) to Canadian upstream and downstream operations.
This role supports operational excellence, environmental stewardship, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement across multiple assets and jurisdictions.
The Waste Advisor will serve as the primary technical resource for waste management programs, regulatory approvals, hazardous waste reduction initiatives, waste reporting, TDG compliance, emergency response planning, and third-party waste contractor oversight.
The successful candidate will collaborate closely with site sustainability teams, operations, procurement, regulators, industry associations, external waste service providers, and global sustainability teams.
Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Management, or a related discipline.
Minimum 7+ years of experience in industrial waste management, environmental compliance, sustainability, or related environmental advisory roles.
Strong knowledge of Canadian waste management regulations and regulatory frameworks across multiple provinces.
Experience managing hazardous waste programs, waste permitting, regulatory reporting, and waste contractor oversight.
Working knowledge of Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) regulations and compliance requirements.
Experience with Emergency Response Assistance Plans (ERAPs) and dangerous goods transportation programs.
Strong understanding of waste minimization, recycling, recovery, treatment, and disposal practices.
Experience engaging with regulators, industry associations, and external stakeholders.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively across geographically dispersed operations.
Willingness and ability to travel periodically to operational sites.
Professional designation such as P.Eng., P.Geo., EP®, or equivalent environmental certification.
Experience supporting upstream and downstream oil and gas operations.
Knowledge of federal environmental reporting requirements, including NPRI.
Experience with electronic waste manifesting systems and waste tracking technologies.
Familiarity with industry organizations such as CAPP, CIAC, and related stewardship programs.
Experience conducting waste facility audits, risk assessments, and contractor evaluations.
Experience working with cross-functional and global teams.
