A service-driven paper and packaging products company, Atlantic Packaging has grown to become one of Canada’s largest paper manufacturers and a leading producer of packaging products. Our organization employs approximately 1000 people at eight manufacturing plants and four distribution centers.
We are looking for a Production Supervisor for our Mississauga location. Reporting to the Superintendent this position will Supervise and coach employees in the manufacture of products to meet production schedules and delivery deadlines and quality standards, in a safe and efficient manner.
Accountable to support company and customer policies by following the direction of Management to enforce all established policies and procedures and taking the necessary disciplinary action for non-conformance
Meets production plan by complying with established priorities and scheduling employee’s activities, monitoring output and resolving any problems.
Promotes and maintains solid employee relations and follows up on job results by participating in new employee orientations, conducting new employee probationary reviews, coaching, counseling, disciplining, listening to concerns and timely answering of grievances, planning and appraising individual and team results within the guidelines of the Collective Agreement and Company policies.
Balances the department labour structure by assigning responsibilities to cover absenteeism and increase in production requirements.
Planning of vacation requests and scheduling overtime following company practices.
Prepare required reports by accurately completing necessary paperwork for hiring requests, production reports, grievance meetings, thoroughly investigate accidents and forwarding complete information to the appropriate personnel in a timely manner.
Guide and promote safe work practices in compliance with OHSA legislation, reducing/eliminating accidents by enforcing safety policies and coaching employees. Enforce proper use of PPE, WHMIS, lockout procedures, and good housekeeping habits. Identify potential hazards and safety concerns, make recommendations and implement necessary action for changes, working with the Health and Safety Coordinator. Participate in plant safety audits with Joint Health and Safety Committee members.
Ensure efficient operation of equipment by conferring with maintenance personnel for proactive maintenance service to avoid unnecessary downtime.
Plan and conduct weekly team meetings to coach and resolve issues for quality, production and safety by collecting and analyzing data and making recommendations to improve, utilizing employee feedback and suggestions.
Contribute to team efforts by recommending continuous improvement initiatives for cost reductions and efficient production.
Essential Skills / Experience:
5+ years Supervisory experience
5+ years manufacturing experience preferably in paper packaging industry
Must have excellent organizational and communication skills
Must have good problem solving skills
Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word etc.)
Excellent interpersonal skills and math skills for reports
Aptitude for accuracy and detail
