AWS/CWB - QUALITY WELD INSPECTOR

Job Summary
The Quality Inspector, under the direction of the Quality Manager, will primarily be responsible for conducting routine inspections of incoming material, in-process first off/last offs and finished product. They will review and assess manufacturing processes and methods to ensure quality standards are met. They will also be responsible for training and mentoring manufacturing staff to ensure quality results are maintained and consistent with established policies, procedures, and applicable regulations.

· Mentorship: Able to mentor and train employees on quality standards and requirements pertaining to each individual role.
· Technological skills: Proficient in Microsoft office and computer skills to create reports, presentations, analyze data, and create informational materials. Able to read and understand blueprints pertaining to part dimensions and welding symbols.
· Analysis: Able to read and understand company standards and quality procedures. Able to analyze data and identify quality issues and opportunities for improvement.
· Problem Solving: Competent in problem solving skills such as root cause analysis, corrective and preventative actions and decision making.
· Measurement: Proficient in the use of measurement devices for part dimensions such as gauge blocks, calipers, micrometers, fillet gauges.
Job Duties
· Conduct incoming material inspections and create and issue Supplier concern reports when non-conformances occur.
· Review incoming material test reports and enter data into monitoring spreadsheet.
· Conduct weld inspections both internally and externally (if required) on finished product.
· Identify and repair different types of weld discontinuities.
· Examine and interpret various blueprint drawings for part dimensions and welding symbols for the different manufacturing processes.
· Investigate, review and test new or existing weld process changes.
· Identify non-conformities during the manufacturing processes and issue NCR’s for defective product.
· Review and improve manufacturing processes i.e. cutting, rolling, fixturing, welding, inspections…etc.
· Create work instruction documents for manufacturing processes and products.
· Create and present training presentations for manufacturing staff.
· Work with Manufacturing, Engineering and Production departments to identify and correct quality concerns.
· Analyze data trends to identify opportunities for improvement.
· Use of calibrated gauges to measure part dimensions.
Job Requirements
· Energetic individuals, able to work in fast paced environment with high productivity.
· 2-3 years of GMAW welding experience
· Transferable CWB welding certification is an asset.
· Certified AWS and/or CWB Weld Inspector Level 1 or related certification required.
· Willing to pursue ongoing education and certification as required to further evolve and develop the quality program.
· Standard working hours of 6:00am – 4:30pm Monday to Thursday with flexibility to alter as required to meet operational needs.
· Willingness to work overtime, including weekends, and afternoon shift if required.
· Travel may be required to conduct inspections, visit various Calhoun job sites, and/or to attend or deliver ongoing education.
Work Conditions
· Standing for up to 10 hours per day
· Frequent movement (lifting (up to 60lbs), carrying, bending, turning, and pulling)
· Wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as per company standards (safety glasses, gloves and steel-toed CSA certified boots)
