Cythera Transition House Society is currently looking for a temp part-time STV Counsellor for 21 hours/week. This position provides counselling to women who have been impacted by intimate partner violence and/or abuse.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Assesses the safety of the clients and their children and supports clients in reducing safety risks.
- Interview clients, prepare case histories, assess problems, and outline services provided by the organization.
- Provides individual and group counselling to clients from a feminist and trauma-based perspective using techniques such as therapeutic group counselling and self-skill workshops.
- Provides information on and referrals to other community service providers, resources and professionals as required.
- Facilitates the creation of group counselling in shelters and in the community.
- Participates in or initiates case conferences with other professionals as required.
- Maintains related records and statistics and produces reports as required.
- Maintains current knowledge of issues and resources related to abuse and violence.
- Conduct presentations and public awareness activities about services and issues.
- Performs other related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in a related human/social service field plus two years’ experience working withwomen who have experienced abuse; Or an equivalent combination of education, training andexperience.
- Specialized training in violence in the family from a recognized program.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Acceptable Criminal Record Check is required.
Current First Aid and CPR Certificate.
Acceptable Driver’s Abstract (provided annually).
Valid and unrestricted Class 5 BC Driver’s License with access to a safe and reliable vehicle.
Position requires Union Membership.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Strong knowledge of trauma-informed, client-centered care frameworks, particularly in the contextof intimate partner violence, complex relationships, and post-abuse recovery.
- Effective communication and public speaking abilities, to facilitate community education related togender-based violence, abuse prevention, and support services.
- Demonstrate ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Demonstrate excellent organization and time-management skills.
- Ability to work with a minimum of supervision but to work effectively in a team setting.
- Capacity to foster effective working relationships with other professionals and systems that clients interact with.
Shift/Schedule/Hours per week: 21 hours per week until March 31, 2027; Tuesday and Thursday 9:00 –4:30 and Wednesdays 11:30 – 7:00pm.
Expected Start Date: ASAP
Wage/Salary: starting at $42.47/hour
Grid Level: 14-P
