Position Summary
Reporting to the thl Director, People & Culture, the Advisor, People & Culture will provide Human Resources business partner support to our Stations in Vancouver, Whitehorse, Calgary, Edmonton, Toronto, Montreal and Halifax. The Advisor works closely with our parent company’s (thl) the global People & Culture team.
The Advisor will act as a trusted coach and advisor to supervisors and managers, helping them navigate human resources issues and a “go to” person for Crew members (employees) with respect to their employment with CanaDream. The Advisor will also be responsible for providing analytical and project management support on various people related initiatives.
The Advisor, People & Culture contributes to CanaDream’s success through demonstration of HR knowledge/experience, application, and analysis. They will excel at relationship building and providing solutions that align with CanaDream’s vision and values and drive employee engagement.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead the recruitment and selection activities for CanaDream to ensure permanent and seasonal staff are in place to meet the business’ operational needs.
- Provide first line support to management as it relates to Crew members issues/concerns, etc.
- Knowledge of internal alignment processes, job analysis, and ability to analyze these processes and provide recommendations.
- Participate in local and global Human Resources team meetings.
- Develop performance goals, metrics and targets that are consistent with CanaDream.
- Robust understanding of current compensation and benefit structure.
- Provide analysis, development and writing of reports.
- Research and identify best practices in the area of compensation, development, engagement/retention and benefits.
- Develop, research, implement and evaluate company policies, programs and plans. This may include Health & Safety and general workplace matters, in addition to HR-specific matters.
- Coordinate the company’s Disability Management/Fit for Duty/Workers Compensation programs and support Crew members in their return to work efforts. This includes liaising with the Crew member, our Health, Safety & Wellbeing Lead (North America), supervisors and/or disability insurance/workers compensation case managers.
- Work collaboratively with CanaDream’s and thl's management team ensuring the organizations’ mission, vision, core values and culture are consistently adhered to and understood by all Crew members.
- Strategically plan with the hiring managers for CanaDream’s and thl’s human capital needs.
- Review and enhance the performance management evaluation tools.
- Work collaboratively with management on long-term succession planning and supporting individual development plans to accomplish the vision and strategic objectives of the organization.
- Benchmark and measure effectiveness of HR processes and procedures within scope of responsibilities.
- Assist management to function in an efficient HR manner (e.g. completing Crew member paperwork in a timely manner).
- Maintain positive working relationships with Crew members and the management team.
- Oversee the onboarding and offboarding processes and participate in associated activities relevant to areas within role.
- Advise and assist departmental managers on the interpretation and administration of HR policies, programs and best practices.
- Adhere to legislation such as the Human Rights Act, Occupational Health & Safety and provincial Employment Standards Acts.
- Work closely with payroll and accounting staff on payroll and HRIS matters.
- Advise managers and Crew members on organizational matters such as allegations of discrimination, workplace violence, bullying, discipline, harassment, etc.
- Assist in hazard identification, job-task observation and the investigation of accidents and incidents.
- Conduct exit interviews with all Crew members leaving CanaDream to gain a more in-depth understanding as to why the individual is leaving. Develop exit interview summaries and submit them to the executive team in a timely fashion and ensure exit interviews are filed appropriately upon completion.
- Review all HR policies, procedures and programs annually.
- Provide coaching to managers on Crew member performance issues.
- Ensure company policies and procedures are maintained and up to date and are in accordance with all federal, territorial and provincial legislation and aligned with thls global policies and procedures.
- Maintain accurate, up to date and complete personnel records.
- Register Crew members for all required internal and legislated courses.
- Provide resolutions to Crew member relations issues by adhering to CanaDream’s and thl’s investigation procedures (e.g. Crew member complaints and harassment allegations).
- Complete other duties and projects as assigned.
Skill Set, Education and Experience
- Minimum 3-5 years generalist Human Resources experience;
- Bachelor's degree or post-graduate certificate in Human Resources Management;
- CPHR designation or working towards designation;
- Effective collaboration and communication skills with individuals at all levels of the organization;
- Superior telephone manners and strong interpersonal skills;
- Strong presentation skills;
- Ability to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times;
- Ability to work efficiently as a part of a team as well as independently;
- Computer literacy, including effective working skills of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and e-mail required;
- Excellent time and project management skills;
- Attention to detail in all areas of work;
- Strong problem identification and problem resolution skills;
- Ability to interpret and implement company policies and procedures;
- Demonstrated knowledge of relevant laws/legislations;

Working Conditions:
- Travel within Canada will be required and globally may be required.
