Reporting to the Manager, Regional Human Resources (Manager), the Human Resources Assistant (HRA) provides varying levels of support to the Region in the areas of: human resources planning, recruitment, and the preparation of staffing requests; Casual, Relief, and Substitute Staffing Actions; preparation of critical documentation (e.g., Request for Acting Pay and Clearance forms); and the provision of high quality HR services/supports to the Region.

The HRA is responsible for assisting regional Human Resource Officers in the effective and efficient delivery of the teacher recruitment process and ensuring smooth transition into the community. The HRA ensures alignment of standards and requirements with established departmental, Collective Agreement and Government of Nunavut. The HRA is responsible for the appropriate management of staff actions and providing accurate HR advice and guidelines. The HRA is also responsible for regional and school-based leave and attendance matters.

Knowledge of office practice and the ability to operate common office equipment (e.g., photocopier, fax, scan etc.) is required to be successful in this position. The incumbent must also have good analytical skills, communication skills both verbal and written as well as listening skills. This position requires basic computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and be capable of navigating through common HR systems/applications/tools. The ability to work independently, demonstrating a high degree of personal initiative and sound judgement is also required to be successful in this position.

The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job is usually obtained through completion of Grade 12 along with two (2) years of related human resources / secretarial / administration experience. Equivalencies will be considered. Ability to work in Inuktitut would be an asset.

The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktitut (Inuinnaqtun), English and French. Ability to speak Inuktitut or Inuinnaqtun is considered an asset.
