This is a temporary vacancy, for a duration of approximately 8 months.
Position Summary
The Maintenance Repairperson is responsible for performing routine maintenance, repairs, and minor installations to ensure the safe and efficient operation of municipal facilities, equipment, and infrastructure. This role conducts inspections, addresses maintenance requests, and ensures compliance with safety regulations and operational standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform general maintenance and repair work on municipal buildings, equipment, and infrastructure.
- Conduct routine inspections to identify and address maintenance needs, ensuring safe and efficient operations.
- Repair and replace components such as doors, windows, plumbing fixtures, electrical components, and flooring.
- Perform basic carpentry, plumbing, painting, and minor electrical repairs as required.
- Operate hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment safely and effectively.
- Assist in implementing preventative maintenance programs to reduce downtime and extend the lifespan of assets.
- Respond to maintenance service requests and emergency repairs in a timely manner.
- Maintain accurate records of work completed, inspections, and material usage.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, reporting hazards and following proper safety procedures.
- Assist in maintaining inventory of tools, equipment, and supplies for maintenance activities.
- Follow all health and safety guidelines, including proper handling of cleaning chemicals and equipment and properly utilize personal protective equipment (PPE).

Education & Certifications
- Valid Ontario Class “G” driver’s license.
Experience
- Minimum 2 years of experience in maintenance, repairs, or facility operations.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- General Maintenance Expertise: Strong understanding of facility upkeep, minor repairs, and building maintenance techniques.
- Technical Skills: Experience with carpentry, plumbing, painting, and basic electrical work.
- Equipment Operation: Proficiency in using hand tools, power tools, and maintenance machinery.
- Health & Safety Compliance: Knowledge of workplace safety procedures, hazard identification, and safe work practices.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot maintenance issues and implement solutions.
- Time Management: Ability to prioritize work orders and complete tasks efficiently.
- Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills for reporting and coordination.
- Collaboration: Ability to work effectively with team members, contractors, and other municipal departments.
- Attention to Detail: Ability to identify maintenance needs, perform quality repairs, and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
- Communication: Ability to convey information clearly and effectively to tenants and members of the public with diplomacy and respect.
- Technical Proficiency: Proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office Suite, as well as experience with work order and work tracking software.
Working Conditions
- Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor environments.
- Exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, potentially hazardous materials, and various weather conditions.
- Standard business hours, Monday-Friday, with occasional evening or weekend work for emergency and planned maintenance activities. This role also requires availability for on-call responsibilities, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Cognitive demands include problem-solving and decision-making, particularly when dealing with complex tasks or unexpected repair needs.
- Physical demands include lifting, bending, climbing, and working in confined or elevated spaces
