We are seeking an Environmental Planner / Environmental Specialist who enjoys balancing fieldwork with technical office responsibilities. This role offers a unique opportunity to split time between conducting environmental field assessments across Alberta and supporting regulatory applications, environmental planning, and reporting for a diverse range of projects.
Working closely with Project Managers, clients, regulators, and technical specialists, you will play a key role in project delivery from planning through execution. The successful candidate will be comfortable working independently in the field, interpreting environmental regulations, preparing technical documentation, and providing practical solutions to support project development and environmental compliance.
This position is anticipated to be approximately 50% field-based and 50% office-based, with seasonal fluctuations depending on project requirements.

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS

Degree or diploma in Environmental Science, Geography, Biology, Ecology, or a related discipline.

Minimum 3 years of experience in environmental consulting, environmental planning, permitting, reclamation, or related environmental services, preferably within Alberta.

Professional designation (e.g., P.Biol., P.Ag., RPP, EP) or eligibility to obtain a relevant professional designation is an asset.
- Experience preparing environmental regulatory applications and technical reports for Alberta regulatory agencies is considered a strong asset.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Valid Class 5 Driver's License with a clean three-year driver's abstract.
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES

Demonstrated knowledge of applicable provincial and federal environmental legislation, regulations, policies, standards, and industry best practices, with the ability to interpret and apply regulatory requirements to project-specific situations.

Demonstrated knowledge of a range of biophysical assessments, including wildlife, wetlands, and watercourses in Alberta. Knowledge of environmental assessment practices across Western Canada is an asset.

Ability to work safely and effectively in outdoor field environments and varying weather conditions.

Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate data collection, record keeping, and reporting.

Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accountability for assigned tasks and equipment.

Strong written communication skills, including experience preparing technical reports, environmental assessments, and regulatory submissions.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively in both field and office environments.

Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact professionally with clients, landowners, contractors, regulatory agencies, and project team members.
RESPONSIBILITIES

Prepare and submit environmental regulatory applications, permits, approvals, and notifications in accordance with provincial and federal requirements.

Prepare technical reports, environmental assessments, environmental protection plans, and compliance documentation.

Lead or support environmental field programs, including site assessments, wildlife surveys, wetland assessments, watercourse assessments, inspections, monitoring, and data collection.

Collect, analyze, and interpret environmental field data and incorporate findings into technical reports and recommendations.

Provide environmental planning and regulatory support throughout project development, construction, and reclamation phases.

Ensure project activities comply with applicable environmental legislation, permit conditions, regulatory approvals, and company procedures.

Coordinate and communicate with clients, landowners, contractors, regulatory agencies, and project team members as required.

Assist with proposal preparation and business development initiatives.

Mentor and provide guidance to junior staff and field personnel, as required.

Promote and support the implementation of AiM's Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines.
