POSITION SUMMARY
The Director of Education, under the direction of the Executive Director, is responsible for providing program leadership, support and direction in the implementation of Songhees initiatives with regards to Education. Including relationship-building with partnering governing bodies and agencies, that serve the Songhees Members and their families.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Administrative operational functions and responsibilities:
- Provide program administrative leadership, including research, composing documents, and coordinating Education program activities, projects and improvement initiatives.
- Initiate actions emerging from strategic initiative meetings, community engagements and complete assigned tasks.
- Attend and participate in planning and implementing cross-departmental initiatives and contribute to achieving the overall strategic objectives.
- Maintain records and records management according to workplans, guidelines, funding agreements and legislative procedures.
- Develop and maintain regular reporting project status to Director of Operations, and Executive Director.
- Operational planning and implementation of project activities, infrastructure development and maintenance.
- Plans and implements policies, standards, procedures, and practices relating to the delivery of services.
- Annual budget planning, and reporting.
Operational plan and program service delivery responsibilities:
- Lead the establishment and achievement of Department deliverables for all Education programming for students and their families, based on the Nation’s operational plan and goals for each fiscal year.
- Ensures that service quality standards are maintained and consistently delivered in all areas of service delivery to Songhees Nation members.
- Ensures the program adheres to Education performance standards, all applicable laws, regulations and funding source mandates.
- Monitors areas of responsibility for opportunities for improvement and innovation and works proactively to implement these.
- Identifies new trends and possibilities for the provision of exemplary services; evaluates and coordinates long-term planning for services and makes recommendations to the Executive Director.
- Plans, leads and implements the program development and delivery to Songhees nation members and their families, meeting all goals, objectives and responsibilities of agreements and deliverables by partner agencies (School District, IED).
- Collect and analyze data related to Education needs to inform and implement program or project improvements.
Human Resources:
- Leads divisional recruitment, onboarding, internal divisional movements, and offboarding processes.
- Applies principles of change management to assist staff in dealing with change and transition, and shift priorities to adapt to changes to meet organizational and divisional requirements.
- Develops division recruitment and retention plans.
- Completes 30,60, 90-day succession planning with employees.
- Provides necessary education and materials to employees including workshops, manuals, employee handbooks, and standardized reports.
- Supports employees with professional & leadership development and succession planning efforts.
- Ensures all employee files, records including: contracts, job descriptions and any other pertinent HR file documents are up to date and filed accordingly to HR legislation
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Degree in Education, or related field.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the provision of program management; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience managing, directing, and leading employees.
- Experience developing a variety of written reports, proposals, policy and procedures, presentations and other documentation in accordance with organization directives and/or regulatory guidelines.
- Valid BC driver’s license.
- Strong knowledge & experience working with related federal and provincial government standards, statutes, regulations, laws, programs and Agencies.
- Must be able to provide a clear criminal record check, including the vulnerable sector.

Pay: $90,000.00-$100,000.00 per year
