Sheridan College is now accepting applications to join the Peer Team for the 2020-2021 Academic year!
Faculty Peer Team Members work together to support, coach and mentor fellow students as they begin their Sheridan experience. Being a Peer Team Member is an enriching experience that allows you to support incoming students, build confidence, and gain skills that can help you prepare for student success. As part of a dynamic 110 member Peer Team across all 3 campuses, you will be able to build a network of lifetime friends and future colleagues. As a student leader on campus you will have the opportunity to: network with fellow students and staff; have an impact on the Sheridan community; build your confidence and contribute to student life; develop leadership, communication and team-work skills; become a role model for incoming students.
**Open to FULL TIME Sheridan students who are returning for the 2020/2021 Academic Year
As a Faculty Peer Team Member, duties include:
Acting as a role model by demonstrating leadership, professionalism, and positively representing Sheridan College
Act as a resource and mentor on behalf of Student Affairs, by: facilitating events for students to get involved on campus; providing general information; making referrals to appropriate services; answering questions; guiding students to campus services and supports; supporting International students with adjustment to Canada
Connecting with students one-on-one to provide additional assistance
Participate in on-going training and personal development activities
Document and track interactions with students
Participate in campus Peer Team meetings and campus team meetings to creatively plan and coordinate events with fellow Peer Team Members
Skills/Requirements:
Full-Time student returning for the 2020/21 school year
Successfully completed at least one academic ter m by the start of contract
Must be in good academic standing
Volunteer experience on or off campus is an asset
Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills
Responsible, well organized and dependable
Passionate about Sheridan with a genuine desire to help fellow students to succeed and to be a role model for students
Experience in customer service is an asset
Must be available to attend all mandatory training
Fall Mandatory Leadership Training Dates: September 11 (evening), September 12 (all day), September 13 (all day)
Winter Mandatory Leadership Training Date: January 16th, 2021 (all day)

Child and Youth Care
Start Date: September 2020
Note: Students must be enrolled in the Child/Youth Worker or Social Service Worker program to apply.
Students who are selected as Child and Youth Worker/ Social Service Worker Peer Mentors will have demonstrated a high level of student leadership and academic achievement within the program and can serve as effective role models for first year students enrolled in the program. Peer Mentors will show a strong commitment to helping new students make the transition to Sheridan along with being part of a team of Peer Mentors at Sheridan. Accordingly all Peer Mentors will require high motivation, strong communication skills, and attention to detail. As representatives of Sheridan and their respective programs, Peer Mentors will be expected to demonstrate the same leadership, professionalism, and role modelling in all aspects of their education, including during their own classes, during interactions with all students and Professors, and during any academic activities
Social Service Worker/ Social Service Worker Gerontology
Start Date: September 2020
Note: Students must be enrolled in Social Service Worker or SSW Gerontology program to apply.
Students who are selected as Social Service Worker Peer Team Members will have demonstrated a high level of student leadership and academic achievement within the program and can serve as effective role models for first year students enrolled in the program. Peers will show a strong commitment to helping new students make the transition to Sheridan along with being part of a team of Peers at Sheridan. Accordingly, all Peer Team Members will require high motivation, strong communication skills, and attention to detail.
