CBC News is looking to hire a producer to join our digital team at Canada's leading news website. The successful candidate will be an accomplished journalist and an excellent writer with a sharp eye for good stories. You need to be a critical, independent thinker as well as a strong news copy editor, and capable of working with some of the most experienced journalists in the business.

Reporting to the executive producer, the successful candidate will ensure the accurate and quick delivery of breaking news to CBC’s digital and social platforms. You must be versed in visual storytelling tools and techniques, and able to adapt to evolving technologies. This job also requires identifying and prioritizing national and international stories of interest for the digital audience.

You must be a self-starter and comfortable taking on responsibilities and making independent editorial decisions.

This is a permanent full time overnight position, scheduled five nights a week, Sunday to Thursday.

As a producer working with mobile and digital content, you will bring the following skills and experience to CBC News:
Minimum five years recent experience in a digital news environment;
Strong journalistic skills;
Substantial experience writing, copy editing, fact-checking and packaging news content;
Ability to think and work independently;
Experience in Search Engine Optimization and Social Media Optimization;
Knowledge of legal and ethical issues related to journalism;
Ability to manage large volumes of fast-moving information;
Excellent online news judgment and ability to work effectively under 24/7 online newsroom deadline pressure;
Good communication and interpersonal skills;
Use of content management systems such as Polopoly and MPX;
Canadian Press style; knowledge of style an asset;
University degree or equivalent;
Ability to work weekends, early mornings, statutory holidays, when required.
