Position Summary
The Summer Intern's supports women and families transitioning from Spirit Way Second Stage Housing into safe, affordable, and sustainable permanent housing. Working collaboratively with the Spirit Way Program Manager, the Housing Outreach Worker assists residents in identifying and securing housing, navigating the lease-up process, and maintaining long-term housing stability.
This position provides individualized, trauma-informed, culturally safe, and strengths-based support to women and families in achieving housing goals and increased independence. The Housing Outreach Worker acts as an advocate, liaison, and support person, assisting residents in developing tenancy skills, accessing community resources, and overcoming barriers to stable housing.
Key Responsibilities and DutiesHousing Support & Outreach
- Assist women and families in securing safe, affordable, and appropriate housing options within the community.
- Support residents with housing applications, rental searches, housing referrals, and waitlist navigation.
- Assist with lease-up processes including tenancy agreements, move-in coordination, and understanding tenant responsibilities.
- Provide post-housing follow-up support to promote successful tenancy and long-term housing retention.
- Conduct housing outreach and maintain relationships with landlords, housing providers, and community partners.
Case Management & Client Support
- Provide one-on-one support and goal planning related to housing stability and independence.
- Assist residents in developing life skills including budgeting, tenancy maintenance, household management, and community living.
- Support women and families in accessing income assistance, subsidies, and housing-related financial supports.
- Conduct needs assessments and support individualized service planning.
- Maintain accurate, confidential, and up-to-date client files and documentation.
Advocacy & Referrals
- Advocate on behalf of residents with landlords, government agencies, healthcare providers, and community organizations.
- Facilitate referrals to appropriate services including legal advocacy, mental health supports, addictions services, employment programs, parenting resources, financial literacy supports, and cultural programming.
- Assist residents in navigating systems that impact housing and wellbeing.
Community Liaison & Collaboration
- Build and maintain collaborative relationships with community agencies, housing providers, and Indigenous-serving organizations.
- Participate in case planning and team meetings to ensure coordinated care and support.
- Represent Helping Spirit Lodge Society in a professional manner within the community.
Cleaning, Safety & Program Support
- Support residents in maintaining clean, safe, and healthy living environments.
- Assist with move-in and move-out inspections when required.
- Support light cleaning, organizing, and unit readiness as needed to maintain program standards.
- Ensure program policies, health and safety standards, and confidentiality requirements are followed.
- Participate in crisis intervention and safety planning when necessary.
Qualifications
- Diploma or certificate in Social Services, Human Services, Indigenous Studies, Community Support, or a related field; equivalent education and experience may be considered.
- Full Time Student- returning to school in the fall
- Successful completion of a Criminal Record Check.

Working Conditions
