Location: In-person at a private school in Heathcote, ON, approximately 20 minutes from Thornbury. Reliable transportation is required.

We are seeking a creative and enthusiastic French as a Second Language (FSL) Tutor to introduce French to a group of 16 beginner students aged 7–12 in a unique outdoor learning environment.
This is an opportunity to move beyond traditional classroom teaching and bring French to life through interactive activities such as storytelling, songs, movement, games, nature exploration, and hands-on experiences.

About the School
The school follows a child-led Forest School philosophy, where curiosity, exploration, and hands-on learning are central to the student experience.
Students learn through meaningful interactions with their environment and develop confidence through exploration, creativity, and discovery. French sessions should complement this approach by encouraging language learning through play, movement, conversation, and real-world experiences.
Lessons take place outdoors throughout the school year. Educators should enjoy spending time outside and feel comfortable adapting activities to different seasons and weather conditions.
Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver weekly French lessons for a group of 16 students aged 7–12.
- Introduce beginner French vocabulary and communication skills through engaging activities.
- Create interactive lesson plans adapted to an outdoor learning environment.
- Encourage students to participate, explore, and develop confidence using French.
- Adapt teaching strategies to different learning styles and abilities.
- Deliver sessions outdoors throughout the school year.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Strong French language skills.
- Experience teaching French or another language to children.
- Creative, energetic, and engaging teaching approach.
- Ability to create meaningful lessons without relying on technology or worksheets.
- Comfortable teaching outdoor.
- Reliable transportation and ability to commute to Heathcote, ON.
- Ability to safely travel in Ontario winter conditions.
- Experience in Forest Schools, outdoor education, Montessori, experiential learning, or alternative education settings is an asset.
