Position Summary
Salem Manor Nursing Home is seeking a dependable, motivated, and mechanically inclined Maintenance Worker II to join our team. Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, you will help ensure our facility, equipment, and grounds remain safe, functional, and well maintained for residents, families, visitors, and staff.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving problems, working independently, and takes pride in maintaining a safe and welcoming environment.
This is a unionized position, and employment is subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable Collective Agreement, including wages, benefits and scheduling.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform preventative maintenance on building systems, equipment, and facility assets.
- Complete maintenance repairs and respond to work orders in a timely manner.
- Maintain the building grounds and outdoor areas throughout the year.
- Assist with inspections and maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation.
- Support outside contractors and service providers while work is being completed on site.
- Recommend maintenance supplies, equipment replacements, and facility improvements.
- Receive and distribute facility deliveries as required.
- Promote a safe environment by identifying and reporting maintenance and safety concerns.
- Provide vacation relief for the Maintenance Supervisor when required.
- Respond to emergency maintenance situations and participate in an on-call rotation, as required.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Building Operator Certificate or a related trade or building maintenance experience preferred.
- Working knowledge of WHMIS, fire safety systems, and general building maintenance practices.
- Mechanical aptitude with the ability to safely operate maintenance tools and equipment.
- Strong problem-solving, organizational, and time management skills.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with staff, residents, families, contractors, and visitors.
- Basic computer skills for documentation and communication.
- Commitment to workplace health and safety.
- Experience working in a healthcare, continuing care, or long-term care environment preferred but not mandatory.
- Experience with preventative maintenance programs and facility management systems preferred but not mandatory.
Schedule
Hours of work is mostly 8:00am to 4:15pm Monday to Friday. Participation in an on-call rotation and the ability to respond to emergency situations may be required.
