DIRECTOR, PEOPLE & CULTURE
OBJECTIVE / PURPOSE
Lead the People & Culture function for thl’s US and Canadian businesses rentals and retail brands.
SCOPE
Reports to: Chief People & Capability Officer with a dotted line to
COO Canada and COO USA
Number of Direct Reports: 4-6
Base: Calgary, Alberta with frequent travel to Santa Fe Springs, CA
Key relationships: Canadian and US Lead Teams, Branch & Station managers, Retail Managers, Global People Lead teams, Global Group Executive, Business Leads for Australia, New Zealand and the UK, external vendors, including payroll systems, workers’ compensation, health and safety, legal and other advisors.
REQUIREMENTS
- Degree in business with a major in Human Resources or related field.
- CPHR designation.
- PHR or SHM-CP certification is desirable.
- Significant experience in a related industry with a focus on operations and customer service.
- Solid understanding of all areas of the HR compliance environment in Canadian provinces and territories, California, and the wider US.
- Extensive knowledge of, and experience managing, employee benefit programs with significant experience in US benefit programs.
- Experience implementing and utilizing DayForce payroll and HRIS systems efficiently and effectively.
- Significant experience in building inclusive, respectful work environments, including providing training and developing/implementing supportive policies and practices.
- Ability to develop and maintain positive, productive working relationships with leadership and crew members.
- Ability to speak and write in French would be an asset.
- High level proficiency in communicating (verbal and written) in Spanish is required.
- Ability to travel to the US and internationally to global HR meetings.
- At least 3 years’ experience leading the HR function/team in a geographically diverse organization.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work with Chief People & Capability Officer and global leadership team to:
- Develop the HR strategic plan in alignment with the global business strategy.
- Implement common practices and frameworks in recruitment, onboarding, retention, training, performance, productivity management and other areas.
- Lead, coach, mentor and develop HR team members.
- Lead the company compliance with Canadian Provincial and US State specific legislative frameworks. Monitor and implement changes in federal and state / provincial requirements.
- Play lead role on Dayforce HRIS application in Canada and the US.
- With a focus on developing our crew, lead and coordinate training for leaders and crew encompassing, Health, Safety and Wellbeing, technical skills and soft skills.
- Provide one to one coaching of leaders where appropriate.
- Support the development and implementation of global and US & Canadian cultural capability programs.
- Participate in the development and lead US & Canadian implementation of a framework to foster inclusion and diversity.
- Work with Managers to implement productivity measures.
- Advise leadership in the resolution of employee relations issues, taking a direct role where appropriate.
- Ensure consistent application of disciplinary proceedings and lead meetings where appropriate. Represent the company at hearings as required.
- Leads the relationships with Benefits, Workers’ Compensation, payroll/HRIS systems and safety advisors and vendors.
- Other duties as required as a member of the US & Canadian Lead Teams.
