Must be available for one shift of 11.5 hours every Sunday and every other Saturday.
Available holidays and for specials events.
Reports to: Dietary Supervisor & Executive Director
Qualifications:
- Minimum grade 12 plus additional courses in Safe Food Handling and preparation. Courses in geriatrics, supervision, and management an asset.
- Experience in quantity food preparation.
- Knowledge of current nutritional standards relating to a geriatric population.
- Ability to direct and supervise others using written and verbal communication skills.
- Free of communicable diseases.
- Willing to actively pursue personal and professional development.
- Working knowledge of Hazardous Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP), Sanitation Code, Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS) and Occupational Health and Safety, Public Health Inspections.
- Functions:
- Enforce Food Service Department policies and procedures when acting in a supervisory role.
- Plan, organize, direct and supervise the activities of the Food Service Department to ensure the provision of high quality food service.
- Plan regular, therapeutic and alternate menus based on Canada's Food Guide to Healthy Eating, current resident population and special seasonal events.
- Follows recipes and menus provided but contributes ideas and alternatives.
- Supervise meal service to ensure appropriate portion control and resident acceptance.
- Aware of new residents’ dietary restrictions, allergies and food preferences and adapts meals based on their individual needs.
- Report to nursing staff any changes in resident behaviour or eating habits.
- Ensure sanitation regulations pertaining to food preparation and food premises are followed.
- Be knowledgeable of and practice residence's fire and safety programs.
- Adhere to established policies and procedures.
- Receives all deliveries and puts them away.
- Keeps Food Service Manager informed of food and supplies that need to be ordered.
- Plates food in an attractive manner.
- Performs other related duties as requested.
- Physical Demands:
- Lifting alone up to 50lbs as an essential job function.
- Pushing/pulling/lifting boxes and food items.
- Walking short distances and up/down staircases.
- Standing for long periods of time as required.
- Bending/stopping for short periods as an essential job function.
- Crouching/kneeling for short periods of time as an essential function.
- Speaking/communicating with staff/residents and individuals who may have impairments and disabilities.
