Role Outline:
The Estimator will report to the Chief Estimator and is responsible for assisting the senior estimator in preparing cost estimates for construction projects. This includes gathering and organizing data, conducting site visits, reviewing plans and contracts, and utilizing software to generate cost estimates based off quantity take off. The Estimator also collaborates with internal departments, participates in bid analysis and proposal preparation, and keeps up-to-date with industry trends and market conditions.
Role Description:
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Assisting senior estimator in preparing cost estimates for construction projects
- Gathering and organizing data related to project costs, such as materials, labor, and equipment
- Conducting site visits to assess the feasibility of projects and gather information needed for cost estimates
- Reviewing and interpreting project plans, specifications, and contract documents to ensure accuracy of cost estimates
- Perform quantity take-offs for all scopes as necessary
- Utilizing software and other tools to generate cost estimates, including spreadsheets and databases
- Collaborating with internal departments, such as procurement and project management, to ensure estimates are aligned with project requirements
- Participating in bid review and analysis, including competitor analysis and cost value analysis
- Keeping up-to-date with industry trends, market conditions, and price fluctuations that may impact cost estimates
- Participating in the preparation of detailed construction schedules and project budgets
- Attending project meetings and presentations to provide cost estimates and support to the project team.
- Compiling and analyzing data from past projects to inform future cost estimates and improve accuracy
- Assisting with the preparation of bid proposals and presentations to clients
- Maintaining and updating the company's cost database and ensuring data accuracy and consistency
- Conducting research on new construction materials, techniques, and technologies that may impact project costs
- Participating in post-project reviews to evaluate actual costs against estimated costs and identify opportunities for improvement
- Assisting senior estimator in negotiating contracts and subcontracts with suppliers and subcontractors
- Assisting with the preparation of change orders and extra work estimates, as needed
- Participating in continuous professional development opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills in cost estimating and project management.
Qualifications
- 3-5 years in estimating working within a general construction contractor setting
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Excellent mathematical and analytical skills
- Experience with cost estimating software and other tools
- Knowledge of construction materials, methods, and equipment
- Ability to interpret and understand construction plans, specifications, and contracts
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Ability to meet tight deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Familiarity with local building codes, regulations, and safety requirements.
- Highly developed interpersonal, communication (written and verbal), and organizational skills
- Sense of urgency, flexibility, and strong commitment to achieving goals; ability to work in challenging, fast paced environment
- Ability to work collaboratively with a positive attitude
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, MS Project, Accounting Software and Bluebeam Revu.
