Role Description

Evoke Learning is looking for independent contractors to deliver a variety of evidence-based reading programs. Contractors are required to have a professional or academic background/expertise in linguistics, social work, psychology, education, child and youth studies, cognitive science, neuroscience, or a related field.

Successful candidates will work one-on-one with students in our Maple office. This is an independent contractor role and candidates choose their work location in consultation with their clients (in office, library, online, etc) as well as set and manage their own hours and schedule. A minimum commitment of six hours a week is required.

The role requires a reliable and professional individual with initiative, patience, strong organization and English communication skills, good judgement, creativity, and theory of mind.

The majority of sessions take place after 3:30pm on weeknights and there is a small demand for reading remediation on weekends and early mornings before school begins.

Contract duties and deliverables include:

  • assisting students in developing reading skills through Evoke's evidence-based programming
  • communicating directly with families
  • monitoring, evaluating, and communicating student progress
  • working one-on-one with students to remediate gaps in reading strategies for students identified to be performing below academic grade level
  • planning how, when, and where reading programming and remediation will be delivered

Independent contractor skills and specifications

  • excellent communication and organization skills
  • a professional or academic background/expertise in linguistics, social work, psychology, education, child and youth studies, literacy, cognitive science, neuroscience, or a related field
  • masters degree is an asset
  • expertise/experience and demonstrated proficiency in tutoring, teaching, mentoring, delivering programming and/or curriculum to children and/or youth

Independent contractors are responsible for providing their own tools and equipment (i.e. laptop, mobile device), transportation, and travel expenses.
