Deconstructors Demolition is looking for experienced Level 2 Asbestos Abatement Workers to join our Nanaimo team.
This position is ideal for dependable, safety-focused individuals who understand asbestos-abatement procedures and are comfortable working in regulated environments. Applicants who already have their own PAPR are strongly encouraged to apply.
What You’ll Be Doing
Your responsibilities may include:
- Performing asbestos-abatement work on active project sites.
- Setting up, maintaining, and dismantling containments, barriers, signage, and decontamination areas.
- Following all PPE, respiratory-protection, waste-handling, and decontamination procedures.
- Operating negative-air equipment and helping maintain containment integrity.
- Removing, packaging, labelling, and handling asbestos-containing materials safely.
- Completing demolition, deconstruction, hazardous-material removal, and general site tasks.
- Keeping work areas clean, organized, and compliant.
- Following direction from supervisors, foremen, and project managers.
- Using the company’s internal OS system for project updates, photos, safety documentation, and communication.
- Reporting hazards, damaged equipment, containment issues, and changing site conditions immediately.
- Helping maintain a professional, productive, and safety-focused jobsite.
What We’re Looking For
Successful applicants will have:
- Valid WorkSafeBC Level 2 asbestos-abatement certification.
- Previous asbestos-abatement or hazardous-material removal experience.
- A good understanding of containment, PPE, respiratory protection, decontamination, and waste-handling procedures.
- The ability to follow safe-work procedures and supervisor direction.
- Comfort working in full PPE for extended periods.
- The physical ability to perform demanding work, lift materials, and complete repetitive tasks.
- Dependable attendance and a strong work ethic.
- Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s licence.
- A professional, safety-first attitude.
- Availability to start immediately.
Assets
The following are considered strong assets:
- Owning a properly maintained PAPR.
- First Aid certification.
- Fall Protection certification.
- Current respirator fit testing.
- Experience on high-risk abatement projects.
- Demolition or deconstruction experience.
- Equipment-operating experience.
- Experience on commercial, institutional, residential, or multi-phase projects.
