- Salary: $40.88–$53.79 per hour (as per ONA Collective Agreement)
We are currently seeking a highly motivated health professional to contribute to our organizational mission of working with our communities to promote and protect health and prevent disease.
Reporting to the Program Manager, the Public Health Nurses The incumbent will work cooperatively with agency staff, community partners, and individuals to provide the leadership and nursing expertise required for program planning, delivery, and evaluation in Sudbury East (including Markstay-Warren, St.-Charles, French River, and Killarney).
- Provides input for the ongoing development of the division’s philosophy, goals, objectives and program/service activities, and the strategic plan.
- Represents the department, division, and program on community initiatives, committees and coalitions providing consultation and exchange of information.
- Supports programs to emphasize population health, and promotion of health and client engagement to meet the Ontario Public Health Standards and local needs.
- Acts as a resource person to the organization and the community.
- Supports the essential duties of other public health nurses in their absence.
- Reflects the agency’s mission, vision, values, philosophy, and strategic priorities in day-to-day work.
- Understands and incorporates the social determinants of health in programming.
- Works collaboratively as a multidisciplinary team member to meet established goals and objectives.
- Focuses on building community relationships, networks and coalitions, and provides consultation specific to agency programs.
- Recognized Bachelor of Science in Nursing or Bachelor of Nursing Degree.
- Current certificate of competence with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- Current CPR level C certification.
- Minimum 3 years public health experience preferred.
- Recent experience in rural health promotion, with an emphasis on community development, creating supportive environments and working toward healthy public policy, is an asset.
- Knowledge of strategies to build effective and mutually respectful community partnerships.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of equity in public health, social determinants of health, comprehensive health promotion, research and epidemiology, principles of population health and community development, and pertinent legislation.
- Strong ability to critically appraise, analyze, interpret and apply evidence in practice.
- Strong public speaking skills.
- Excellent facilitation skills: be able to engage community partners and obtain buy-in.
- Demonstrated computer skills with Microsoft Office and relevant databases.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
- Advanced oral and written proficiency in English and French is required.
- Strong communication (verbal and written), negotiation and problem-solving skills.
- Maintains a means to travel on an occasional basis, such as having a current, valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle with agency required insurance. Travel within Sudbury East (including Markstay-Warren, St.-Charles, French River, and Killarney) is a requirement of this position.
- Preference will be given to individuals with an in-depth knowledge of the public health needs of communities supported by this position.
- Satisfactory criminal reference check (vulnerable sector) is a condition of employment.
- Ministry of Labour “Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps” training certificate is required.
