We’re hiring a Part-time Bookkeeper to join our fractional professional services team supporting charities and not‑for‑profit organizations.This role is ideal for an intermediate bookkeeper who enjoys mission‑driven work, wants stable part‑time hours during weekdays, and is comfortable working remotely across multiple client files. You will work closely with a Controller from our team who provides oversight, guidance on complex issues, and support with client communications and reporting. We partner closely with Executive Directors and Boards to deliver accurate, timely financial information and strong accountability to funders and stakeholders.
The Role
- Title: Bookkeeper (Part‑time)
- Schedule: 3 days per week (preferred), with the option to increase to 4 days per week depending on workload and schedule availability
- Location: Primarily remote within Toronto, with occasional in‑person time at client or team offices in the GTA with advance notice
- Employment type: Employee (not contractor)
Key Responsibilities
- Perform full‑cycle bookkeeping for a small portfolio of charity and not‑for‑profit clients
- Record and reconcile bank, credit card, and other transactions in cloud‑based accounting systems
- Process accounts payables including vendor payments and invoicing
- Support payroll processing and related entries, in collaboration with senior team members as needed
- Support in the preparation of monthly financial reports (e.g., Balance Sheet, Income Statement, budget vs. actual) for internal and Board use
- Assist with year‑end working papers and audit preparation
- Manage a small portfolio of client files with a steady volume of recurring transactions and monthly deliverables
- Maintain organized, accurate documentation and follow established workflows and controls
- Collaborate closely with a designated Controller on each client file, escalating complex issues, aligning on timelines and deliverables, and supporting the preparation of client‑facing reports and presentations
What We're Looking For
- 3+ years of recent bookkeeping experience, including full‑cycle bookkeeping
- Strong QuickBooks Online skills (at least 2 years), including managing multiple client files
- Available to work consistently during weekday business hours 3 days per week, with this role as your primary professional focus during those agreed hours (this is not an evenings‑only or ad‑hoc side role)
- Post-secondary education in Accounting/Bookkeeping
- Intermediate to advanced Excel/Google Sheets skills (e.g., lookups, pivot tables, basic analysis)
- Comfortable handling a steady volume of recurring transactions across several client organizations
- Experience with nonprofit donor management systems (e.g., Raiser's Edge, DonorPerfect) and comfort navigating donor profiles, gift records, and basic reporting is an asset
- Experience with charities, not‑for‑profits, fund accounting, or grant‑based reporting is an asset
- High level of accuracy, discretion, and professionalism in working with confidential financial information
- Clear, responsive communication and a collaborative approach in a remote team setting
- Comfortable working with and taking guidance from a Controller, while owning day‑to‑day bookkeeping tasks and meeting agreed deadlines
Work Arrangements
- Primarily remote work from home, with reliable internet and a suitable workspace
- 3 set weekdays during core business hours, with some flexibility to accommodate client needs while maintaining predictable schedules
- Occasional in‑person meetings in the GTA may be required with reasonable notice
- Start date: Ideally as soon as possible, with onboarding targeted for mid‑June (or the closest feasible date based on candidate availability)
