Facility Care Specialist — 18-Month Maternity Leave Contract

About the Role
Elgin Innovation Centre is looking for a reliable and detail-oriented Facility Care Specialist to provide 18-month maternity leave coverage. This role helps maintain clean, professional, and welcoming common areas throughout our large multi-tenant industrial facility.
This is an important hands-on role focused on washroom cleaning, office/common area cleaning, supply restocking, and general facility presentation. The goal is to help ensure a high level of tenant satisfaction and maintain a professional environment for tenants, visitors, and staff.
Key Responsibilities
The Facility Care Specialist will be responsible for:
- Cleaning and maintaining washrooms, offices, hallways, stairwells, cafeterias, boardrooms, and other common areas
- Completing regular cleaning of toilets, urinals, sinks, mirrors, floors, counters, tables, doors, light switches, handrails, and other high-touch areas
- Sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, emptying garbage, and restocking washroom supplies
- Using commercial cleaning equipment, including floor cleaning equipment and pressure washers as required
- Monitoring cleaning supplies and helping maintain a supply checklist
- Providing a weekly list of needed supplies for ordering
- Occasionally picking up supplies when needed
- Responding to tenant or management requests for specific cleaning tasks
- Assisting with pre-move-in or post-move-out cleaning of tenant spaces when needed
- Completing seasonal, monthly, biweekly, and weekly cleaning tasks
- Maintaining respectful and professional interactions with tenants, co-workers, contractors, and visitors
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have:
- Commercial cleaning experience
- Ability to work independently and take initiative
- Strong attention to detail
- Good time management skills
- Ability to plan and complete tasks efficiently throughout the day
- A professional, respectful attitude when interacting with tenants and staff
- High school diploma considered an asset
Working Conditions
- 18-month contract position covering a maternity leave
- Approximately 30-hour work week
- Regular workdays, with some flexibility to make up hours during evenings or weekends if needed
- Primarily indoor work, with occasional exterior cleaning work
- Physical, hands-on role requiring movement throughout the property
Physical Requirements
The successful candidate must be able to:
- Be on their feet doing physical work throughout the day
- Lift up to 50 lbs, including items such as vacuums, garbage, and cleaning supplies
- Safely perform regular bending, lifting, carrying, sweeping, mopping, and stair use
Compensation
Wage will be based on experience.
