Position Overview: The Distiller will be responsible for overseeing the entire production process on their shift, from mashing and fermentation to distillation and aging. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of distillation techniques, a keen eye for detail, and a passion for great spirits. This role requires both hands-on production skills and an ability to manage and maintain equipment, ensuring the highest quality of products and you must be willing to work on an alternating 10hr shift pattern (typically Tuesday-Friday but other days may be required).
Key Responsibilities:
- Production Management: Oversee and execute the entire distillation process, including milling, mashing, fermentation, distillation, and blending of finished product, ensuring adherence to recipes and production standards.
- Quality Control: Monitor and evaluate the quality of raw materials, intermediate products, and final spirits. Make necessary adjustments to maintain consistency and excellence.
- Equipment Operation: Operate and maintain distillation equipment, including pot stills, column stills, and other machinery. Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting as needed.
- Recipe Development: Collaborate with the team to develop new recipes and refine existing ones. Experiment with ingredients and techniques to innovate and enhance our product offerings.
- Record Keeping: Maintain detailed records of production processes, including ingredient measurements, fermentation temperatures, and distillation parameters.
- Safety and Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols and regulatory requirements related to distillation and handling of spirits. Ensure a clean and organized work environment.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with other team members in the production teams to achieve goals and resolve any issues.
- Packaging: Assist packaging team when required.
Qualifications:
- Experience: Proven experience as a distiller or in a similar role within a craft distillery. Knowledge of various distillation methods and techniques is essential.
- Education: Degree or certification in distillation, brewing, chemistry, or a related field is preferred.
- Skills: Strong understanding of the science and art of distillation. Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Ability to operate and maintain distillation equipment.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift heavy materials and stand for extended periods. Comfort with working in a production environment.
