The IBD Centre of BC is looking for a Registered Nurse to work as a Clinical Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Nurse to cover for 12 months the maternity leave of a current employee. This position requires the candidate to work in collaboration with members of a multidisciplinary team to optimize care for patients with IBD.
Essential Functions and Duties
- In collaboration with the Gastroenterologists, develops, implements and evaluates treatment strategies for patients
- Assists with initial consultations and conducts patient follow-up appointments with physicians
- Educates and supports patients, families and caregivers about various aspects of the disease
- Supports the various multi-disciplinary clinics running at the Centre
- Provides treatment recommendations and advice to patients who call or email for assessment of their symptoms
- Initiates lab work and tests as needed
- Facilitates access to physicians for patients needing urgent care
- Communicates and collaborates with all members of the healthcare team regarding a patient’s status, and provides referrals to a dietitian, psychologist, psychiatrist and other specialists as required
- Administers biological therapies
- Teaches patients and families how to self-inject and manage their treatment at home
- Assures proper documentation and maintenance of clinic records according to Good Clinical Practice and company policy
Required Education, Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
- Registration with BCCNP
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- IV certification/phlebotomy skills an asset
- Experience in gastroenterology is an asset
- Self-directed, flexible and can work with minimal supervision
- Computer skills including familiarity with Telus CHR systems an asset
- Ability to multi-task an asset
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Work hours are: Monday to Friday, 8:30 to 16:30.
