A Yard Associate assist the lumber yard crew, fills customer orders and prepares them for shipment in a fast paced and customer focused business. Your job responsibilities include organizing orders for outgoing transportation, and monitoring safety conditions. You might also be assigned some delivery duties as required.
We’re seeking an experienced Yard Associate that has Lumber/Building Supply experience, plus a valid forklift ticket.
This position is responsible for the speedy and safe fulfilment of the following:
- Be active in customer awareness and attending to their needs
- Assist in building customer orders for pick up when asked
- Assisting the other Yard Crew in their duties
- Assist in organizing Lumber and Yard Products
- Checking order paperwork and piece count before loading
- Communicating with Lumber Desk, Yard Associates and Dispatcher about product movement
- Be available to deliver product to customers using a company vehicle when requested
- Maintaining the yard in good, clean and safe working order
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Must be able to lift up to 50lbs into pickup
- Forklift experience is an asset
- Class 5/7 in good standing
- Ability to work on a team as well as to work safely and productively without supervision.
General Duties
- Be customer aware and quick to respond to customer needs in the yard.
- Make a priority of assisting customer in finding and loading their purchased.
- Confirm paperwork and product count with customer pickup order before loading product.
- Maintain general order and organization of all yard and warehousing products and procedures.
- Ensure that shelves are loaded with adequate product amounts and assist in loading product to shelves when transferred from Kirton warehouse or yard.
- Assist the Lumber Desk, Order Builders and Dispatcher with duties regarding the yard products and equipment.
- Responsible for adhering to processes for, and proper use of, all equipment associated with the movement of products in the yard and the order picking process.
- Assist in picking, packing, labelling, and shipping sales orders as instructed by management.
- Keep aware of deadlines and process orders to meet commitments.
Other duties
- Sweep, mop, empty trash cans, clean work surfaces and perform any applicable maintenance duties to keep the warehouse area clean and organized
- Operate our equipment in a safe and mindful manner (forklift, light duty delivery truck)
- Maintain proper security over merchandise and delivery documents.
- Attend meetings, training sessions, etc. as required.
- Work on additional duties and assignments as assigned by management.
Safety
- Work in a safe manner in accordance to provincial and federal safety legislation, as well as use of good common sense. Report any potential hazards and unsafe behavior to management in order to have the situation corrected.
