The company distributes branded products in the discount, mainstream, and super-premium segments, and is the leading producer in most major bakery categories. It also produces private label products for grocery and foodservice outlet.

We are currently looking to hire a Maintenance Supervisor who is looking to take the next step in their career. This fast paced and exciting role is based out of our Hamilton, ON plant. The maintenance department is a unionized manufacturing environment.

This role requires a confident supervisor and communicator who takes pride and initiative in their work. Your main objective will be to address our bakery’s equipment and process challenges and successfully raise each employee’s level of knowledge and skills so that they can quickly install, troubleshoot and adjust or repair existing and new (including PLC) equipment being introduced in the plant. Promotion of employee safety and ensuring overall compliance to the Occupational Health & Safety Act are also a key part of this role.

This role is fundamental to the efficient operation of plant equipment and services, including cost control, safety, and product quality. The successful candidate will be called on to provide recommendations for continuous improvement of resources (staff, equipment, inventory), processes and efficiencies against standard. A background within Six Sigma is an asset to this role.

Ensuring the efficient operation of plant equipment.
Supporting and driving the implementation of any improvement initiatives.
Managing the maintenance budget by controlling cost, planning repairs and curing best pricing.
Managing and developing the skilled-trades team consisting of electrical, millwrights & stationary Engineers.
Be willing to work on shift assigned.
Develop the team by providing sound and consistent leadership, support and training.
Participate and support the implementation of new equipment.
Maintain and audit a preventive maintenance program on production equipment and buildings ensuring that any planned preventive repairs are scheduled in accordance with production schedules
Actively supporting the Canada Bread Quality, Food Safety and Health and Safety programs and corresponding audits.
Overseeing and directing plant projects including those involving outside contractors.
Ensuring that the plant is in compliance with Federal, Provincial and Municipal legislation.
Developing and maintaining positive cross-functional relationships.
Representing the Maintenance Department at meetings as required.
Plan and facilitate monthly safety meetings and audits.
Vacation and shift scheduling for the hourly staff and verification of time cards/payroll.
Other duties as assigned

Previous experience working in the food industry would be highly advantageous
5 years of supervisory experience within maintenance
Must have a flexible schedule in order to work the three shift rotations ( days, afternoons, nights) as well as every other weekend
Good English oral and written skills
Very good interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
Working knowledge of MS-Office and AutoCAD.
Accustom to working with computerized maintenance and inventory reporting system
Flexibility to work over time as and when required.
Excellent troubleshooter.
Understanding of HACCP and CFIA requirements
Self directed / motivated team player open to new technology with a sense of urgency and attention to detail
Basic knowledge of sheet metal and machining
Experience in Environmental and Energy tracking reporting methods.
