Our Government, Media Relations & Issues Management department is looking for a permanent Government and Media Relations Advisor to join our team.
This role will have a strong government relations focus, including supporting the MLA Liaison Program, drafting and coordinating responses to enquiries from MLA offices and ministries, and developing accurate, plain-language briefing and information materials for government audiences. The successful candidate will also provide media relations and issues management support as needed.
You’ll be joining our Government, Media Relations & Issues Management team which works to build and strengthen WorkSafeBC’s strategic relationships with government, its agencies, MLA offices, and media, and supports an organization that is making a difference to the workers and employers of B.C.

Where you’ll work
At WorkSafeBC, we offer a hybrid work model that combines working remotely, and in our offices based on the operational needs of the position.
We’re looking for people who can:
- Clearly and concisely present and explain technical information in plain language to audiences with varying levels of understanding and information needs.
- Draft, edit, and proofread clear, accurate, and well-structured materials for senior staff, government, MLA offices, and other external audiences, with a high level of attention to detail.
- Apply strong editorial judgment to ensure materials are accurate, consistent, and aligned with WorkSafeBC’s strategic objectives, and policies.
- Develop relationships and work with internal stakeholders from across our lines of business to obtain and understand required information.
- Independently plan, organize and prioritize multiple projects and tasks to meet departmental and organizational deadlines and goals.
- Provide excellent customer service to internal and external clients by putting them at ease, responding courteously, and providing solid advice and consultation.
- Apply understanding of B.C.’s political landscape to inform both reactive and proactive government relations.
Your background and experience
- A bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations or affairs, political science or a similar discipline
- A minimum of six years of experience in the following:
- field of government relations, public affairs, communications, or public relations.
- And/or working with government, crown corporations or agencies, and ministries.
- Experience working with external stakeholders like elected officials and/or media.
We’ll consider equivalent combinations of education and experience.

Salary: $ 44.08 - $55.54/hour
