Our client Treaty 8 First Nations of Alberta is seeking a compassionate and community-focused professional to join its Housing Support team as a Program Support Worker. This is an opportunity to make a meaningful difference by providing direct support to individuals and families working toward housing stability across Treaty 8 communities.
Reporting to the Manager of Housing Support, the Program Support Worker provides direct community-based support to individuals and families accessing Housing Support services. This position works closely with clients to provide outreach, assist with accessing supports and services, and support housing stability.
This position is a full-time contract position ending March 31, 2028, with the possibility of extension.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Client & Community Support
- Provide direct support to community members accessing Housing Support services and programs.
- Support clients in navigating programs and services by providing guidance, follow-up, and advocacy where appropriate.
- Respond to client concerns and inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
- Build respectful and trusting relationships with clients using culturally safe and trauma-informed approaches.
Community Engagement & Outreach
- Travel regularly to Treaty 8 communities to provide in-person support and outreach.
- Participate in community meetings, engagement sessions, workshops, and events
- Promote awareness of Housing Support programs and services within member Nations and communities.
- Maintain a visible and trusted presence within communities.
- Collaborate with internal teams, member Nations, and external organizations to support coordinated service delivery.
Documentation & Program Support
- Maintain accurate and confidential client notes, records, and case documentation.
- Provide updates and required documentation to the Program Coordinator to support reporting and file management.
- Assist with tracking client interactions, referrals, and outcomes.
- Support data collection and reporting requirements as required.
COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS
The successful candidate will be community-focused, compassionate, organized, and comfortable working independently in field-based environments. You bring cultural awareness, genuine care for community members, and the ability to navigate complex situations with empathy and professionalism.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Diploma, certificate, or related education in social services, community support, Indigenous studies, human services, or a related field is considered an asset.
- Minimum of two (2) years of related experience in program support, client services, or community-based program delivery.
- Experience working with Indigenous communities, organizations, or community-based programs is considered an asset.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Valid Class 5 AB driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.
- Willingness and ability to travel extensively within Treaty 8 Alberta Territory and other locations as required.
- Flexible work schedule, with occasional evening and weekend responsibilities.
- Willingness to submit to an oath of confidentiality.
- Clear criminal record and vulnerable sector check required.
- Ability to speak or understand Cree or another Treaty 8 language is considered an asset.
