Overview / Responsibilities:
Wood currently has an exciting opportunity for a Junior Electrical Estimator. Reporting to the Project Services Manager, this position is located in our Vancouver, BC office. Through a period of training and on the job learning, learn how to assist in the preparation of accurate estimates of how much it will cost to provide a client, or potential client, with services. This ensures accurate budgeting and planning can take place, supports the robust control of projects throughout their lifecycle to ensure the project can be delivered profitably. Under continuous, close supervision and with support and guidance, learn how to provide input to support the preparation of estimates to the required level of detail and accuracy in accordance with contractual requirements and Wood policies, procedures, and standards.
Responsibilities:
Assist in the development of estimates for minor contract scope changes, extra work orders, and minor projects
Assist and support in the development of project cost estimates in accordance with the Basis of Estimate including statements of work scope, assumptions, man-hour estimates, narratives, and review & comment of client documents
Assist in the internal review of project cost estimates, coordinating comments & updates
Assist and support the delivery of reviewed estimates to Wood management for review and approval
Assist and support in the production and issue of updates to projects cost estimates in a controlled manner
Liaise with other Project Controls disciplines to ensure project budgets and schedules are developed to reflect the structure and content of the approved project cost estimate
Assist and support with the formal filing of project and proposal estimates, the collection of project historical data and the continuous update of estimating databases and norms in a controlled manner
Assist and support in the coordination, development, and issue of change orders in accordance with the appropriate change notifications
May assess and communicate cost and schedule impact of change notifications
Participate in Project Controls Compliance and Continuous Improvement Reviews
Assist in the delivery of cost estimates where
prepared estimates meet Wood policy, processes, and standards
estimates are submitted in a timely manner considering restrictions imposed by resource limitations and documentation provided by stakeholders
the Basis of Estimate is documented
a record of approved estimates is maintained
Current contract rates are reflected in estimates
Current materials and fabrication prices are maintained to reflect the latest market conditions
Contingency risk analysis is carried out as specified in Wood policy, processes, and standards
Performance of projects is reviewed in terms of actual hours and quantities versus estimated hours and quantities with recommended changes to norms as required
Scope and design development charge orders are correctly identified
Change orders are tracked with correct submission and approval dates recorded
Skills / Qualifications:
This is a junior position, therefore 1 to 3 years of experience would be considered an asset
Previous experience in cost estimating of power transmission and distribution projects would be considered an asset
Sound knowledge of construction processes with knowledge of a variety of electrical equipment and methods of installation would be considered an asset
An electrical engineering degree or engineering technologist diploma would be considered an asset
Proficient in Microsoft Office and computerized estimating programs
Excellent written and verbal communication
