The Role
We are hiring a Casual Laundry Attendant to support operations at Sechelt Hospital. In this role, you will provide essential on-call coverage at our healthcare sites. This is a casual position with no guaranteed hours, and weekly hours will vary depending on operational needs.
Responsibilities:
- Collect, sort and transport soiled linens to the designated processing areas
- Wash, dry, fold and hang general linens and residents’ personal clothing, taking care to follow handling requirements for each item type
- Count and transfer linens between carts as required
- Label, stage and deliver clean linen carts to the appropriate units based on scheduled needs
- Top up linen supplies on the units and exchange clean carts for soiled ones
- Collect soiled linens from the units on schedule
- Maintain familiarity with cart locations across all serviced units
- Safely manoeuvre laundry carts to and from units
- Load and unload linen carts from the trailer and load soiled tubs for return transport
- Respond promptly and professionally to linen-related requests from healthcare staff
- Answer phone calls from the units and follow up as needed
- Use tablets to track linen usage and complete required documentation accurately
- Keep linen rooms, carts and work areas clean, organized and safe
- Follow all infection prevention, safety and PPE protocols at all times
Candidate Requirements
- Flexible and available to accept shifts on short notice (days, evenings, weekends, stat holidays)
- Able to work independently with minimal supervision
- Physically fit and capable of maneuvering large mobile containers
- Fluent in reading, writing and speaking English
- Courteous, punctual, responsible and reliable
- Up-to-date immunization (e.g. Hepatitis A & B, MMR, Influenza) (mandatory)
- Clean criminal record (mandatory)
