Position: Sales Manager (Construction Division) — based in Calgary, AB
About the role
The Sales Manager is responsible for driving new business and managing sales of the company’s construction products and services across markets in Calgary and surrounding areas/markets. This is a hands-on leadership role that combines business development, tender oversight, team leadership, and cross‑functional collaboration to deliver consistent, profitable growth.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and execute annual and quarterly sales strategies and team targets to grow market share and improve short‑ and long‑term sales and earnings.
- Direct territory expansion and strategic account planning: identify key targets, establish long‑term growth frameworks, and create targeted action plans to drive volume across all product lines.
- Lead new market entry programs by assessing potential partnerships and adjacent industry sectors, recommending go‑to‑market approaches and executing pilot initiatives.
- Partner with Leadership to establish annual sales plans and measurable objectives designed to capture additional market share and improve operating margins.
- Identify, qualify and pursue new business opportunities; build, manage and maintain a robust sales pipeline to meet or exceed performance benchmarks.
- Oversee the full sales lifecycle from prospecting through negotiation, contract finalization and closing to final handover; coordinate contract terms with the General Manager and internal stakeholders.
- Monitor tender invitations, commercial news and industry portals for opportunities; review tender documents/specifications thoroughly prior to bidding, attend pre/post‑tender meetings and ensure timely.
- Provide leadership to the Sales Team through hiring, coaching, setting objectives, conducting performance reviews, promoting professional development and foster an accountable culture.
- Collaborate closely with all stakeholders to ensure smooth project execution.
- Conduct comprehensive market research and competitive intelligence; collect and report critical industry/client data and deliver monthly evaluations on sales efficiency, pipeline health and productivity.
- Evaluate how sales initiatives and pricing decisions impact short‑term and long‑term operating margins; recommend corrective actions as required.
- Implement ongoing promotional activities (social media, PR and other channels) to enhance brand visibility and support business development efforts.
- Cultivate and preserve high‑level business relationships with general contractors, owners, trade associations and major industry partners; represent the Company at trade shows, networking events and tender meetings.
- Perform other duties and special projects as requested by the management team.
Qualifications & skills
- University degree in Civil Engineering, Business, Marketing or equivalent experience preferred.
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in the construction industry (or equivalent); at least 3 years in a supervisory/management role.
- Proven ability to read and interpret tender/contract documents and blueprints (asset).
- Demonstrated track record in business development, contract negotiation and managing a sales pipeline.
- Ability to travel within assigned territory which may include inter-provicial travel
- Strong communication, presentation, problem‑solving and organizational skills.
- Proficient with MS Office / Google workspace.
