About Kids Included: Kids Included (formerly GRIT) has been providing inclusive early childhood services since 1982. Funded by Alberta Education, through Program Unit Funding (PUF) young children with a developmental disability can access early childhood services to support their learning, participation and development for up to three years prior to grade one. Educational support occurs in the everyday places where children play and grow (e.g. home, community, preschool, kindergarten, etc.).
About the Position: The Developmental Assistant (DA) position is a 10-month position that follows the school year from September to the end of June. Paid vacation is set according to Edmonton Public Schools calendar including 2 weeks for Winter break and 1 week at spring break. The salary range is from $23.48- $29.73 and will commensurate with experience and education. Comprehensive benefit package for staff working over 20 hours per week. A reliable vehicle is required.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Primary Service Provider, the Developmental Assistant (DA) is an integral member of our PUF education team. The DA will implement a program for a child with a disability under the guidance of a trans-disciplinary team through active participation in team meetings (IPP), preparing for educational team member visits, and collaboration with community professionals (i.e. playschool teacher). The DA will actively promote family centered practice by strengthening parent’s critical role as an active participant, learner, and decision maker regarding their child’s educational program. The DA will support and advocate for opportunities for the child to be fully included in natural learning opportunities in home, community and school and provide learning through play opportunities to build on the child’s strengths and interests to support the integration of individual learning goals identified on the IPP. This integral role holds a place as an ambassador of Kids Included in the community and develops and maintains collaborative relationships.
Job Requirements:
- Education: Completion of post-secondary education in related areas of: Child and Youth Care, Disability Studies, Early Learning and Child Care, Educational Assistant, Therapy Assistant or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience working with young children and/or experience working with individuals with a complex lifelong disability.
- Potential to work with children with medical needs (ie; G-tube, tracheostomy)
- Ability to lift and transfer up to 50 lbs.
- Current Certification in Level C First Aid/ CPR
- Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector and Children’s Intervention Record Check.
- Vehicle required- 2 million automobile liability insurance/ Drivers Abstract in accordance with Program policy.

Working Conditions: This position requires working 2.75+ hours per day up to 5 days a week in either home, community/classroom programs with various levels of support from others ranging from none to moderate. Physical demands are unpredictable and include sitting, standing, kneeling, pushing, pulling and lifting up to 50lbs. Commuting between programs and driving to/from community settings may be required.
