The George Weston Limited (GWL) Risk Advisory group provides risk, assurance, consulting and compliance services for GWL, Weston Foods, and Choice Properties REIT. Our mandate is to deliver value to our businesses that progresses management’s strategic and tactical agenda, while ensuring that business risk is appropriately mitigated.
The company is looking for a dedicated and experienced Compliance Director to facilitate compliance programs for GWL and to provide oversite to compliance department heads across multiple business units within the group. Reporting to Vice President, Chief Risk Officer, the Director is accountable for managing Compliance activities and executing on the Compliance framework.
Act as the main point of contact for compliance within GWL ensuring that compliance programs are in place to identify, detect and correct non-compliance with laws, regulations and Company policies
Lead the integration of compliance into the various regulatory areas through implementing practical fit-for-purpose ways of working and cadence to enable oversight without creating disruption to the business
Establish and report on key performance indicators and key risk indicators to monitor program effectiveness and take proactive actions to ensure indicators are within acceptable limits
Provide oversight and guidance to compliance department heads across multiple business units within the group, provide input to their planning and execution of the compliance framework, departmental design, control evaluation plans and risk assessment methodology
Monitor developments and emerging regulatory compliance risks to ensure necessary changes are reflected in the day to day operations of the associated compliance programs
Risk assess compliance verticals on an annual basis to identify priority areas
Provide oversight to the Business Integrity lead within the group of companies including developing and executing awareness plans, facilitating the compliance incident management process, and maintaining policy governance
Work cross-functionally to consolidate compliance training and awareness strategies, implementation plans and initiatives, both internally and externally and develop effective and continuously improving engagement and adherence methods
Develop annual evaluation plans and oversee operating effectiveness testing of the compliance programs across the group of companies
Champion client specific initiatives to enhance the quality and value of our service delivery including benchmarking, internal / external research, industry events, thought leadership, relationship building, training & competency development
Minimum 7 years of experience with Compliance within a complex and large scale enterprise across multiple regulatory compliance areas, 3 of which are in a management role
Undergraduate degree in business or other related discipline including Juris Doctor, (J.D)., Bachelor of Laws (LL.B), Certified Professional Accountant (CPA) designation, or equivalent and/or other regulatory compliance certifications preferred
Strong knowledge of governance principles and understanding of three lines of defense
Solid experience in designing, implementing, evaluating and maintaining compliance programs
Must be committed to work the hours required to complete projects on time and in line with quality expectations
