THE OPPORTUNITY
As a member of the healthcare interdisciplinary team, the Medical Laboratory Assistant is responsible for performing detailed functions to support patient care and facilitate the execution and reporting of laboratory tests at Georgian Bay General Hospital.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
The ideal candidate will possess the following key competencies, record of experience and academic preparation:
- Medical Laboratory Technician Certification or equivalent
- Effectively perform venipuncture and ECG on adult and paediatric patients
- Strong keyboarding and computer skills
- Ability to work with automation, perform maintenance, specimen preparation, specimen loading, and other laboratory duties under the guidance of a technologist
- Knowledge of laboratory safety protocols
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- High level of accuracy in work
- Ability to work effectively independently as well as part of a team
- Demonstrated satisfactory work performance and attendance history
- Commitment to delivering an exceptional experience for staff and clients within a dynamic and challenging healthcare environment
- Previous related experience in a hospital setting is preferred

COMPENSATION

- Hourly rate of pay $30.49-$35.14/hr plus a generous vacation allotment in accordance with the OPSEU Collective Agreement.

HOURS OF WORK
Casual. Shifts would include rotating days, nights, weekends, and holidays. Shifts and hours may change according to departmental requirements and as per the OPSEU collective agreement.
