Our dental office provides preventive, restorative, and cosmetic oral care. Services include cleanings, fillings, extractions, crowns, implants, orthodontics, and teeth whitening. Staff manage appointments, billing, insurance claims, and patient records.
MAIN DUTIES:
· Assist dentists by preparing patients for examinations and supporting dental procedures and treatments
· Clean, sterilize, and maintain dental instruments and equipment
· Prepare dental materials, fillings, compounds, and instruments required for procedures
· Take and process dental X-rays
· Polish teeth and crowns, and apply fluoride treatments and dental sealants
· Take preliminary dental impressions for diagnostic models
· Provide patients with oral hygiene education and instructions
· Perform administrative duties including preparing invoices, processing payments, scheduling appointments, maintaining patient records, and ordering dental and office supplies
· May perform intra-oral procedures such as removing sutures, recording vital signs, applying topical anesthetics and desensitizing agents, fabricating and removing temporary crowns and restorations, and applying or removing rubber dams
· May also conduct pulp vitality testing and assist with periodontal screening and charting
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Dental assistants require completion of an eight-month to one-year college or other program in dental assistance
- Registration with a regulatory body is required in all provinces except Quebec and Ontario
- Certification by the National Dental Assisting Examination Board is required to perform intra-oral duties in all provinces except in Quebec, where intra-oral duties are not performed by dental assistants
