We operate the Buzzard, Golden Eagle and Scott platforms in the North Sea where our business strategy is to maximise the value of our existing portfolio whilst at the same time also creating opportunities for global growth.

We're in search of an adept Contracts Team Lead to join our Supply Chain Management Team in Aberdeen. In this role, you'll oversee a team of Contract Analysts, guiding them in delivering contract management services that drive proactive commercial solutions for CNOOC International’s North Sea Operations. Your responsibilities will span the full spectrum of oil and gas operations, from exploration to decommissioning.
Your focus will be on optimising value for the company through effective budget management, governance, and assurance controls. Additionally, you'll champion a culture of continuous improvement, actively contributing to refining processes and procedures. Collaborating closely with Contract Owners, you'll ensure that our external supply relationships yield optimal value for the business, while fostering strong internal partnerships across various functions.
As a key member of the Supply Chain Team, reporting to the Contracts Manager, you will lead the development and execution of the Contracts Team's functional strategy. This role involves overseeing a team of Contracts Analysts to optimise contract portfolio performance, develop industry-leading contracting strategies, and manage the end-to-end contract lifecycle, including demand management, supply market analysis, cost modelling, sourcing, post-award performance management, and contract close-out or renewal.
You will ensure budgeted outputs are met, maximising value while minimising waste and risk, and applying outcome-based and transformational contracting methodologies to drive superior results. Upholding the highest professional and ethical standards, you will ensure adherence to CNOOC's contracting procedures and business controls while proactively engaging with internal stakeholders to support contract development, execution, and management. Additionally, you will provide guidance across the organisation on contracts planning, strategy, performance management, and risk, and represent CNOOC externally in partner engagements and industry initiatives.
You will contribute to continuous improvement in contracting processes, share best practices, participate in the Contracts Review Board for key strategies and contract awards, and support various contracting activities such as tender processes, negotiations, and post-award administration. A commitment to personal and technical development, as well as taking on additional duties and ad hoc projects, is also expected.
Ideal candidates for this role should possess a degree or equivalent qualification, along with proven experience in team leadership and people management, preferably within the oil and gas industry. They should have expertise in contracts management, including team development, performance management, and contract portfolio oversight. A strong commitment to HSE policy compliance is essential, as is relevant contracting experience, ideally in an Operator environment.
Candidates should have a sound understanding of the oil and gas supply chain, including market dynamics, LOGIC-based contracts, and UK/EU procurement legislation. Strong commercial awareness, analytical skills for cost analysis, and proficiency in contractual risk allocation are required. Effective facilitation, negotiation, and post-award contract management skills are key, along with the ability to collaborate with internal teams, external groups, suppliers, and contractors.
Excellent communication, organisational, and numerical skills are necessary, as well as proficiency in information systems like SAP and Microsoft Office. Experience in budgeting, reporting, and project management practices is also important. Candidates must be self-motivated, able to work independently, and capable of performing well under pressure while effectively prioritising tasks.
In this role, you can participate in our Compressed Work Schedule (CWS), which offers two Fridays off per month in exchange for an additional 45 minutes of work each day. You will work collaboratively with colleagues in the office from Monday to Thursday, and from home on a Friday, when not on a CWS day. Additionally, we provide free lunches for all employees and direct contractors.
In return for your dedication, we offer a comprehensive total rewards package that acknowledges your contributions and supports your family. Our standard benefits include competitive healthcare and dental coverage for you and your dependants, company-paid life insurance and accident coverage, generous vacation time, and a competitive company pension plan with a substantial match and company contribution. We also provide a complimentary annual health check.
We are committed to our deliverables, but we also know how to have fun. We host several wellness challenges each year to support mental, physical, financial, and social health. Our team members also engage in community support through financial contributions and volunteer initiatives.
