Overview:
We are seeking a kitchen porter/dishwasher to join our team. The primary function of the kitchen porter/dishwasher is to provide daily support to the kitchen team by assisting with kitchen cleanliness, maintain kitchen organization and occasionally assisting with food preparation. The ideal candidate will have experience working in a kitchen environment and is familiar with kitchen operations. This position requires work to be completed on-site in Ottawa, Ontario as well as occasional off-site events when required. This position requires a professional demeanor and appearance when dealing with guests. Hours can involve weekends, evenings and early mornings.
Duties:
- Ensuring the cleanliness of the kitchen and all items used in the delivery of service to the standards expected by Indigenous Experiences.
- Follow daily, weekly and regular cleaning and sanitization standards of the kitchen.
- Clean and sanitize dishes, cookware, and utensils.
- Clean and sanitize food preparation workstations.
- Ensure that there is no contamination from other areas of the farm brought into the kitchen.
- Contribute to the provision of a healthy, safe and well-maintained environment and ensuring all kitchen tools and equipment, serving areas are free from harmful bacteria or other contaminants.
- Follow all food health and safety requirements, including wearing the appropriate PPE.
- Adhere to the dress code as defined and in accordance with Indigenous Experiences’ policies.
- Assist with the unloading of deliveries and their proper storage. (up to 50lbs)
- Be available for and attend monthly kitchen/culinary team meetings as requested.
- Assist in arranging tables and chairs to the configuration specified by the ambassador team for the event.
- Support the Banquet and Catering Assistant in arranging food serving tables, cutlery and glassware for events.
- Maintain a professional demeanor when speaking to guests.
- Assisting with basic food preparation as needed.
Skills:
- Physical ability to stand for an entire shift and lift 50+ pounds.
- Be prepared to work in different environments.
- Willingness to work weekends, nights and early mornings. Willing to work long and/or extended hours.
- Strong team player.
- Good communication skills.
- Dependable and reliable with the ability to take and follow directions.
- Adaptable and flexible.
- Proficient in English with an Indigenous language and/or French as an asset.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
