Overview
The Lead Carpenter provides oversight to construction projects, monitors and directs daily site activities, and ensures that safety and quality standards are maintained at all times. This role works closely with the Project Manager, field crews, subcontractors, suppliers, and clients throughout all phases of construction.
The Lead Carpenter is responsible for coordinating site activities, supporting project schedules, providing technical expertise, and leading the carpentry team while remaining actively involved in hands-on construction work.
Duties
Site Leadership & Coordination
- Supervise, coordinate, and schedule the daily activities of construction crews and subcontractors.
- Monitor project progress and assist in achieving project milestones and deadlines.
- Coordinate work activities with subcontractors, suppliers, and project stakeholders.
- Resolve work-related issues and recommend improvements to productivity and quality.
- Prepare material lists and coordinate site requirements.
- Assist the Project Manager with planning and execution of construction activities.
- Act as backup to the Project Manager when required.
Construction & Quality
- Perform hands-on carpentry work including framing, roofing, drywall, finishing, trim work, and general construction activities.
- Review plans, specifications, and project requirements.
- Ensure work is completed according to company standards and applicable building codes.
- Maintain a secure, weather-tight, and organized job site.
- Conduct site inspections and identify deficiencies or corrective actions.
Safety & Training
- Ensure all company safety policies and procedures are followed.
- Promote and maintain safe working conditions.
- Train and mentor carpenters, apprentices, and labourers.
- Support continuous improvement of construction practices and workmanship standards.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of carpentry experience.
- Previous leadership or supervisory experience in construction.
- Strong understanding of residential and commercial construction.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
- Strong commitment to safety, quality, and customer satisfaction.
Pay: $30.00-$35.00 per hour
