Job Summary
The Summer Student Maintenance Support position will be responsible for assisting in the upkeep and maintenance of the houses and apartment complex, as well as the related grounds. Maintenance Support will perform routine preventative maintenance duties, minor repairs, garbage disposal and groundskeeping duties for the buildings and related properties of the Society.
This position requires safety work wear and includes use of face/breathing /dust mask when necessary and steel toe footwear, safety glasses and work gloves. Students must have steel toe footwear. Safety glasses, masks and gloves will be provided.
Duties
- Sweep, mop, scrub and wax hallways, floors and stairs
- Operate industrial vacuum cleaners to remove scraps, dirt, heavy debris and other refuse
- Empty trash cans and other waste containers
- Wash windows, interior walls and ceilings
- Perform minor repairs on appliances
- Perform safety and security checks
- Move heavy furniture, equipment and supplies
- Perform other routine maintenance jobs such as painting and drywall repair
- Water and tend to plants, lawns and/or gardens
- Work with minimal supervision
- Maintain accurate documentation of maintenance activities
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and facility regulations
Skills
- Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently or as part of a team
- Effective communication skills
This position is physically demanding with lots of bending, crouching and kneeling. It also requires the ability to lift up to 45 kg (100 lbs). A criminal record check is required for successful applicants before starting employment.
There are four positions available. The job term starts on June 29, 2026, and is an 8-week term.
Pay: $18.25 per hour
