Transit Peace Officer 6 permanent & 4 temporary up to 18 months

Help maintain a safe, secure and welcoming environment for passengers using public transit throughout the City of Edmonton. Transit Peace Officers respond to and resolve diverse situations that occur on a daily basis at various Edmonton Transit Service facilities and properties. You will be responsible to:
Respond to security emergencies, incidents and general complaints that occur at any ETS facility or on ETS property
Ensure ETS facilities are secure and patrons are safe by conducting routine preventative patrols on ETS property and reporting immediately any potential or actual risks or losses
Ensure ETS customer service needs are met by providing transit information such as required fares or location stops, responding to injury reports within transit facilities, and assisting passengers who require any support in using the transit service
Exercise discretionary law enforcement powers under federal and provincial legislation, and municipal bylaws
Work with a variety of security professionals, other Peace Officer groups and the Edmonton Police Service to improve safety as it relates to ETS
Support Transit Operations with the safe and efficient management of products, materials and equipment associated to fare
Collect information and evidence to support court proceedings, insurance claims, and Security and Risk Management activities. Give testimony or evidence in court as required
Perform other duties as required

Qualifications :
Completion of a recognized Diploma related to Police Studies, Security or Criminology and a minimum of 3 years of strong customer service experience with at least 1 year of diverse law enforcement experience - OR -
Grade 12 and a minimum 5 years of enforcement experience in a recognized law enforcement environment. Must have been a serving Police Officer in Canada, or employed as a Peace Officer Level I within Alberta for at least 2 years
Must possess or be able to obtain the Provincial Community Peace Officer I designation with completion of the Community Peace Officer Induction Program - CPOIP, as well as a Bylaw officer appointment
Must be able to obtain or have successfully completed the Physical Abilities Readiness Evaluation (P.A.R.E.) within 4 minutes and 45 seconds (4:45)
Possession of valid Standard First Aid and Basic CPR certificates and AED qualified
Skilled in exercising tact, sound judgment and firmness in dealing with difficult situations and with the public
Ability to defuse potentially volatile situations, and to recognize and react appropriately to dangerous situations
Understanding of officer safety techniques
Knowledge of applicable policies, bylaws, acts, legislation and basic principles of loss prevention
Knowledge of powers of arrest
Strong team player with the ability to contribute to a high performing team
Excellent communication, organizational, prioritization and time management skills are required
Ability to use current computer software including word processing and databases
Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is a requirement for this position
Hire is dependent upon a Police Information Check including Vulnerable Sector check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton

Hours of Work: 40 hours per week, evening and weekend availability is required

Salary: $37.308 - $41.338 (Hourly); $68,052.100 - $86,313.740 (Annually)
Transit Peace Officers awaiting certification will be paid at a rate of $32.592 (Hourly)
