About Learning Buddies Network Learning Buddies Network (LBN) is a BC-based grassroots service charity that provides free one-on-one mentoring for elementary students who need support in reading and math. Students are typically identified by teachers and community partners as children who would benefit from additional academic and social-emotional support, and whose families may not be in a position to access paid tutoring due to social, linguistic, geographic, or economic barriers. LBN recruits and trains high school, post-secondary, and community volunteers to serve as mentors and tutors. Through consistent one-on-one support, children build literacy and numeracy skills, confidence, self-esteem, and a stronger sense of belonging. At the same time, youth volunteers develop leadership, communication, and community service skills. LBN is currently in a period of growth, with expanding school partnerships, Indigenous programming, donor stewardship needs, and organizational systems. To support this growth, LBN is hiring an Executive Assistant to increase organizational capacity and help the Executive Director focus on leadership, fundraising, partnerships, strategy, and program sustainability. Overview of the Position The Executive Assistant provides fundraising, administrative, operational, communications, and coordination support to the Executive Director and the broader organization. This role is ideal for someone who is highly organized, proactive, detail-oriented, comfortable with technology, and able to manage competing priorities in a small nonprofit environment. LBN has decided not to hire a Fund Development Director at this stage. Instead, this role will help strengthen the administrative and coordination systems that make fundraising and donor stewardship possible. The Executive Assistant will support donor communications, CRM/database upkeep, events, Giving Tuesday and annual campaign coordination, meeting preparation, grant tracking, stewardship reminders, and other systems that free up senior leadership capacity. This is not a senior fundraising strategy role. The Executive Assistant will not be expected to independently lead major gifts, develop the full fundraising strategy, or replace the Executive Director’s role in donor and funder relationships. Rather, the position will provide the structure, follow-through, and administrative support needed to make fundraising, donor stewardship, Board coordination, and organizational operations more sustainable. The successful candidate will report to the Executive Director and work closely with staff, contractors, volunteers, Board members, and committee members. Position type: Employee Work hours: Work hours are flexible and may be negotiated based on the successful candidate’s availability and LBN’s operational needs. Availability during regular weekday hours is required, with occasional evening and weekend work for Board meetings, committee meetings, donor events, or program-related needs. This role may be structured as part-time or full-time depending on organizational needs, budget, and the successful candidate’s availability. Location: LBN staff primarily work from home. This role may require occasional in-person meetings, events, or program visits in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia. Compensation: Compensation is expected to be in the range of $26.00 to $35.00 per hour, commensurate with experience and scope of responsibility. Comprehensive benefits will be provided after 90 days of employment for full-time employees. LBN offers three weeks of vacation after the successful completion of a 90-day probationary period. Employees also receive their birthday off each year and paid time off during LBN’s annual closure between Christmas and New Year’s.
