SPS is recruiting for a PLC Programmer
Duties and Responsibilities:
·The PLC Programmer supports the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of automated manufacturing equipment within the Tire Department. This role provides technical expertise for PLC-controlled equipment, HMI systems, industrial networks, robotics, vision systems, and machine controls to improve safety, quality, reliability, and productivity.
PLC Programming & Automation
- Troubleshoot, modify, and maintain PLC programs and control systems.
- Support Allen Bradley, Omron, Mitsubishi, Siemens, or equivalent industrial PLC platforms.
- Develop and maintain HMI applications and operator interfaces.
- Support machine commissioning, startup, and automation upgrades.
- Maintain program backups and controls documentation.
Equipment Reliability & Continuous Improvement
- Analyze equipment downtime and identify root causes of failures.
- Implement automation improvements that improve safety, quality, reliability, and productivity.
- Support preventative maintenance and equipment lifecycle planning.
- Participate in Lean and continuous improvement initiatives.
Technical Support
- Provide controls and automation support to Maintenance and Production teams.
- Support industrial networks, drives, sensors, vision systems, robotics, and safety devices.
- Assist with installation, integration, and troubleshooting of new equipment.
- Work with internal departments and external vendors on automation projects.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure equipment and programming modifications comply with safety standards and regulatory requirements.
- Support machine safeguarding and safety system validation.
- Follow company safety, environmental, and quality standards.
- Ensure compliance with Occupational Health & Safety Act, ISO 14001, and ISO 9001 requirements.
- Additional Duties
- Support departmental projects and initiatives.
- Maintain technical documentation and records.
- Other duties as assigned.
HOURS OF WORK:
Days: Monday to Friday 7:30am to 4:00pm
Overtime may be required i.e., after shift / Weekends for Physical Inventory or Production requirements
Due to the nature of the Maintenance role, you may be required to support operations during planned shutdown periods, including summer and winter shutdowns, based on business requirements.
Qualifications
Education
- Diploma or Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Automation Engineering Technology, Mechatronics, Industrial Controls, or equivalent experience.
- Electrical certification (442A, 309A, or equivalent) considered an asset.
Experience
- Minimum 5 years of PLC programming and industrial automation experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience troubleshooting automated production equipment.
· Proven interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in a close team environment.
· Positive attitude with the ability to work independently and self-direct when required.
· Strong organizational, time management, and decision-making skills.
· Strong attention to detail.
Core Skills
- PLC programming and troubleshooting.
- Experience supporting Allen Bradley, Omron, Mitsubishi, Siemens, or equivalent industrial PLC platforms.
- Experience with HMIs, VFDs, servo systems, and industrial networks.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and control drawings.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
Asset Skills
- Automotive or tire manufacturing experience.
- Robotics and vision system integration.
