Position Title: Emergency Responder

Reports To: Director, Investigations and Emergency Response
Classification: Union
Hours: 40 hours per week – Will include weekends & holidays
Saturday to Wednesday; Shift rotation includes 8am-4pm and 3pm-11pm
DAYS/TIMES OF SHIFTS MAY VARY/CHANGE
Rate: $18.31 (Start) - $24.57 (Year 10) Union wage scale

Position Summary:
The Emergency Responder attends situations of routine, urgent and emergent welfare concerns
involving animals (companion, livestock, wildlife) within the City of Winnipeg. Handling sensitive
and urgent issues related to animal welfare with a diverse set of stakeholders while remaining
objective, effective, and diplomatic. Obtains, and accurately documents, pertinent information
from the community regarding animal welfare complaints. Prepares detailed and accurate reports
and correspondence supporting their Animal Protection Officer (APO) colleagues in enforcing
provisions with The Animal Care Act and assists APOs during animal welfare inspections.
Maintain confidentiality in all matters as an Emergency Responder while acquiring the skills
required to perform in the role of an Animal Protection Officer (APO), when the opportunity for
advancement presents itself.
