Molecular Research Technician, Level 1
Segra International is a leading Canadian agri-tech company in the cannabis industry, focusing on large-scale propagation through tissue culture. Segra is currently seeking a temporary full-time Molecular Research Technician to join a growing team in our Genotyping and Molecular Lab Services Division. The candidate will be responsible for conducting trials with tissue culture-derived cannabis plants employing a variety of molecular- and bioinformatics-based techniques. This entry-level position requires strong organizational and time management skills, excellent verbal and written communication abilities, and an attention to detail. This position is full-time for a period of six months, with the possibility of extension based on performance and research funding availability.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in life sciences. Preference given to candidates with prior molecular biology experience and familiarity in working in a molecular research laboratory environment.
Duties
The Molecular Research Technician, Level 1 will:
· Collect samples from tissue cultured plants using aseptic techniques
· Accession samples and update results
· Effectively organize and maintain large databases
· Prepare and analyze data for presentation and/or publication
· Perform manual and/or automated extraction of DNA and RNA from plant materials
· Perform cultivar identification or pathogen detection assays
· Clean, sanitize, and disinfect lab equipment and facilities
· Operate lab equipment and contribute to equipment maintenance
· Prepare reagents and maintain stock inventory
· Carry out other laboratory duties as required
Other Requirements
· Must have Canadian Citizenship
· Must be under 30 years of age
