Are you seeking practical, client facing, quality substantive IP training? Are you keen to have mentors who are sincerely dedicated to your growth and success? Are you looking to be a vital member of a tight-knit team? Do you want your daily work to actually make a difference to the success of a firm? Look no further—we have the summer position for you! Heer Law is a growing boutique intellectual property law firm located in downtown Toronto that is looking for an eager and passionate student to become a pivotal member of our entrepreneurial team.
At Heer Law we help businesses reach their full potential through effective acquisition, management, use, and enforcement of intellectual property rights. Our services help protect and develop intellectual property into formidable business and financial assets. Our team offers a full suite of IP services including patent, industrial design, trademark, copyright, intellectual property agreement and intellectual property litigation services.
Our growth creates a spectacular opportunity for a student to work on a broad range of client matters and meaningfully contribute to the firm’s continued success on various levels. As a summer student at Heer Law you will have a unique opportunity to get to know legal practice from all angles. During your summer at Heer Law you will have the opportunity to work closely with all members of our team on a wide array of matters with clients ranging from start-ups to large organizations at the forefront of scientific research and development.
We are seeking a student who is passionate about and dedicated to the practice of intellectual property law. The ideal student will be highly driven, display an aptitude for entrepreneurialism, and be keenly attentive to detail. The perfect Heer Law summer student is a team player with a sincere desire to learn and to support our growing firm.
The firm does not have a formal rotation through our patent, trademark, copyright, design, agreement and litigation practices; rather, the summer law student will gain exposure to all areas of intellectual property and all aspects of our practice, and is encouraged to seek out work that truly interests them. The summer law student will also gain real exposure to the firm’s clients and is always welcome to observe client consultations. Heer Law ensures that our students have a clear understanding of how their work supports a file and encourages student involvement at every stage of a client matter.
In our small firm environment, we prefer an organic approach to professional development. Summer students are assigned a mentor to serve as a first point of contact and to oversee their workload; however, every member of our team serves as a mentor to our students.
Applications will only be accepted from law students graduating in 2026. Your application should include a cover letter, resume, list of anticipated upper year courses, and unofficial copies of your law school, undergraduate, and graduate transcripts (if any).
