Technical Skills/Competencies (technical knowledge, education and experience):

  • College degree and/or technical diploma an asset
  • Saskatchewan Polytechnic’s Bioscience Technology Diploma
  • Occupational Health and Safety – Certificate
  • Strong understanding of Microsoft Office Applications, in particular, MS Office and MS Excel
  • Knowledge of safety & quality processes
  • Food safety program certification, ex: SQF Practioner Certification
  • Experience in a GMP environment is preferred
  • HACCP certification or willingness to complete
  • Knowledge of quality system concepts (GFSI, SQF or ISO) an asset
  • Knowledge of Federal or Provincial OH&S safety systems an asset
  • Experience in building and/or participating in a safety/quality program an asset
  • Experience in systems and product auditing an asset
  • High level of organization

Role & Responsibilities

  • Perform all necessary tasks to maintain safety & quality such as random spot audits, education & training, and supervision
  • Actively participate in both internal and external inspections and audits, and ensure that the company’s safety and quality systems are compliant
  • Perform internal audits within the various functional areas to compare products, processes and services against conforming standards; document and share results with leadership
  • Assist the Safety & Quality Managers with corrective and preventative action plans
  • Report non-conformances to the Safety & Quality Managers and alert all key personnel as necessary to prevent continued production when non-conformances are identified
  • Ensure open and appropriate communications with all external auditors
  • Adhere to all safety and quality standards and requirements for audits
  • Root cause analysis and follow-up on corrective actions derived from internal and external audits, as well as, other non-conformances including customer complaints
  • Participate in Quality Management team meetings
  • Monitor and trend daily/weekly key quality metrics and communicate issues to management as part of an effort to identify improvement opportunities
  • Participate in the development and continual improvement of the GFSI program
  • Maintain a master list of controlled documents, including document revisions and equipment
  • Review tool calibrations for upcoming expiry and follow through with maintenance on any calibration issues
  • Work with document owners to ensure timely review and updates
  • Adhere to applicable safety and quality standards for documentation, creating new documents as required in a timely manner
